Yet Another Kill at Saratoga Today Gives the Lie (Again) to NYRA’s “Industry Standard for Safety”

The horse grinder that is Saratoga Race Course, again. Today, in the 1st race, it was 3-year-old Salt Cay. Dead. As you can see by the list below, this makes three kills in two days, and five in six, at this, perhaps America’s premier racetrack.

In its coverage of our protest this past Saturday, CBS 6 said that “the New York Racing Association (NYRA) sent the following statement regarding the animal cruelty accusations [ours, by the way]: ‘The health and welfare of horses and jockeys competing at NYRA tracks is our highest priority. NYRA continuously evaluates all aspects of the operation to ensure we are providing the safest possible environment for training and racing…. NYRA’s organizational commitment to safety sets the industry standard. … NYRA is committed to implementing science-driven best practices to establish and maintain safe racing surfaces and facilities and has made significant capital investments to upgrade all facilities with a focus on safety.'”

They divert, distract, dissemble, and deceive because they have to. Their product kills, consistently and inevitably.

Saratoga’s Victims, Thus Far
Range War, Jun 3, training – “injured while breezing” (being prepped for first race)
Supernova, Jun 22, stall – “apparent peritonitis”
Vindatude, Jul 3, training – “collapsed and expired” (three years old)
Credit Event, Aug 6, training – “fractured leg, euthanized”
Plurality, Aug 6, training – “collided with another horse” (being prepped for first race)
Practice Squad, Aug 10, training – “sustained leg injury, euthanized on track”
Awesome Gerry, Aug 10, racing – “suffered an injury, euthanized on track”
Salt Cay, Aug 11, racing – “injured, vanned off, euthanized”

        • I noticed you didn’t even answer the question. So killing babies via abortion isn’t wrong, huh?

          • What does abortion have to do with horse racing? Also, I am about as conservative as it’s possible for a person to be yet I’m still able to dislike the abuses in horse racing.

  1. Horseracing is a cesspool of criminals committing horrific acts of ABUSE, BRUTALITY and CRUELTY against horses for money. Stop bankrolling this horrendous CRUELTY and killing of horses in this state and every state in the United States!!!!

    • This right here is a cesspool of Biden loving cop hating baby killing extremists. You all are a joke and need to get a grip. Why don’t you protest against Budweiser and their use of Clydesdales and dalmatian mascot?
For the ones saying NYers don’t work? I work 60 hours a week nimrod and am highly educated. That OP wouldn’t last 24 hours working for me.

      • You sound like a person with no common sense. How can you not understand the basic concept of treating animals humanely???

        • I have plenty Libbie.
You people that want open borders, no cops, killing babies, etc are the enemy here. And yes, I am stereotyping.
Oh, and don’t forget about global warming!!

  2. Safe horseracing is an oxymoron. It is not possible.
We already know they don’t Care about the horses. Really, not the jockeys either..

  3. Does anyone here know what it means when a race caller declares that a horse is being “asked the question” by a jockey during a race?

    • Yes. And, it all sucks. Shut this pure evil gambling racket down. Especially you saratoga, you haven of old farts 🤣

      • Yes, shut down horse racing, zoos, theme parks like Sea World, county fairs for their ‘exploitation’ of their farm animals. The whole gambit!
We can all smoke weed, be vegetarians and hold hands and sing kumbayah.

        • Ya got any weed jt? Cause, frankly with all these horses unnecessarily getting killed for scumbag losers … I could use some. jt you don’t even need a high school diploma to be a homely horse trainer. PATHETIC

    • My first guess is basically the horse has run out of gas so to speak and the jockey whips the hell out of the horse to get to the finish line without regard for the well-being of the horse!!!!

    • The jockeys are basically TELLING the horse to keep running. They’re not literally asking. It’s deceptive to use the word “ask” but because it is a public event, it sounds better to the uninformed, the inexperienced, the naive, the gullible and/or the delusional public. It’s a stinking lie to use the word “ask” as well as saying a horse is “playing around and wheeling” because the horse is in FEAR and PAIN and doesn’t want to run in a torturous race!!!! Horses are not machines and this cesspool of crimes needs to be busted and the criminals put behind bars!!!!

        • You sound like an idiot.
You are wasting your time. It’s obvious that you don’t care about the horses. Your deny and deflect tactic is worn out. The killing of horses for racing and wagering is NOT okay.

              • Actually, your comments are all over the map. You have made several statements and accusations that are not applicable to me as an individual. I personally do not hate all New Yorkers. The person who made the comments about New Yorkers being lazy meant that she is totally sick of the rich people in NY making money off of horses and causing suffering and death to the horses. You seem to not be able to see that difference. Why do you take it personally? Do you own a racehorse or have a microshare?

          • First it’s the tracks that are killing horses, then it’s the trainers. Or the jockeys. Or the gamblers. Or veterinarians. Maybe make up your mind.
Your logic is like saying guns kill people which is a proven falsehood. Just another narrative talking point from the left. Deflect? Sounds like you are the one deflecting.
You’re arguments are all over the map with nothing but accusations and hatred of NY and all NYers.

            • Why can’t it be all those things that are killing horses? I am pro gun, pro cop, pro closing the border, probably am more conservative than you. Loving animals is not a political issue and I find your arguments ridiculous…

              • Donna, this commenter, JT, was just shooting his mouth off like a shotgun blast, not like a sniper, so to speak.

  4. Racing people are so delusional.
I saw a twitter post where someone said this doesn’t “happen very often”, and told people to read the charts.
I read the charts for TWO tracks today. TWO.
And though the second track’s fatality isn’t confirmed, because of course, Romped was a no-name horse belonging to a no-name trainer and there’s no “Aw so sad I’m so sorry run free in horsey heavens” on twitter, I’m fairly certain he’s just as dead as Salt Cay.!
TWO TRACKS so far, folks. And there’s what -half a dozen, or more, others racing today??
Racing folks just don’t care and are in denial!

  5. Hey Michael Dubb, instead of giving money to the illegal stall workers(cheap labor for multi millionaire trainers) …. you know who your billions should be going to INSTEAD … the innocent horses, they are the ones being KILLED (murdered) by evil, overrated scum**** Ny. I don’t see the stall workers dying ….like the HORSES. Answer *THAT* the horses need saving NOT illegal stall hands.

    • I ask the same question about the current administration in the White house. Every day.

  6. Hey new york vets, ya have your thumbs up your ass ???? Oh, that’s right, you’re too busy running around with your big pink death needles.🤮 sooooo many to “euthanize”

    • Sounds like you have issues with your hatred of NY. Probably a member of ANTIFA in the name of ‘saving animals’.

  7. You know what would end this corny bs even faster than anything ….send the illegal groomers, stall hands, and all other nonsense back to their countries of origin. No shit scoopers, and menial labor, poof gone. You think todd pletcher is gonna scoop poop?😆🤣

    • We venture to guess all the trainers who have sent their “wards” out to win money for them or feed their over inflated egos would have to step up to the plate. Oh, sorry I mean mucker equipment.

  8. Their industry standard is to kill horses like there is no tomorrow and lie like hell. They’re all liars, cheaters and criminals.

  9. Hey, you lazy ny’rs you proud of your non-real job selves ….photogs, talking heads (maggie w, the little nerdy glasses wearing guy …etc.) Here’s an idea … why don’t you go work! Like something that doesn’t promote the KILLING of animals? We all know the answer already …you couldn’t cut it, why work? ….when you can do a lazies unnecessary evil, it’s the easy way out. Too bad the ones who deserve a way out (horses) don’t have that option like you lazies.

    • Here’s maggie w.’s whole shtick ….”oh, I don’t like the looks of this horse, and this horse looks … blah, blah, blah” that’s that abrasive woman’s whole shtick. You know what maggie the horses think YOU look like crap.

      • And you obviously have selective hearing. Scary to wonder what you people think of people who keep their furry friends indoors so they don’t risk harm from outdoor dangers. Is that animal cruelty? Applying your earlier logic seems to say so. Maybe we shouldn’t be allowed to have animals as this violates their rights and freedoms.

    • So your logic is NYers are ALL killers. Those of us with professional careers and have no vested interest in horse racing are alo lazy .
Your arguments are extremely illogical and weak.

        • No my issue with you all is that you want to destroy places of historical importance, like Saratoga, without thinking about anything less than your narrative. First it was Ringling Brothers, then Sea World shamu show.
Then I present facts, and you all don’t have any actual rebuttal because you know I’m right.

          • I think mainly old folks town saratoga will be just fine without horse killing. It’ll still be there 🙄it’s not gonna curl up and die.

            • I think you are wrong. If it weren’t for ML Whitney, the town would have done just that. And what about all the small business owners who sell products geared to horse racing tourists. Should they be deprived of their livelihood?

          • JT, We know that you’re really screwed up in the head and that you’re probably going to get most of your comments deleted.

            • Oh you know, of course. You know little based on your hurling of hatred towards NYers. And yet you can’t answer any of my questions, so therefore you must be weak minded. You light the fuse, prepare for the consequences.

              • Not sure why you keep saying you’ve asked questions or presented facts because out of your dozen comments I’ve just seen stupid insults that actually aren’t true. Lol. First, I’m not on twitter. Second, I love cops, as long as they function appropriately and professionally. Third, not a liberal. Fourth, not a baby killer. Fifth, not a huge Biden lover, but still like him better than previous regime.
But – I have actually had a horse that was killed racing. And that’s why I’m here. Sooooo, if that makes me all of the above, in your nutty eyes, so be it. Won’t hurt me!

                • No the current regime was not better at all compared to 45. You like high inflation? Open and unsafe borders allowing gang members to cross freely? Curtail of free speech? Packing the courts? That’s scary compared to the prior administration.
Sorry for your loss but I think your anger is misplaced and misguided. No one enjoys seeing an animal suffer, period. But your lack of knowledge about those in horse and not caring is way off base. You are relying on the surface report and unfortunate result as motivation for your argument. The reason I keep bringing up the left is that these are the types of groups that are funded by Soros and co.

            • Let’s say you are successful in ending horse racing. What’s next for your miserable existence? Ban slot machines because you don’t agree? Maybe you can ban free speech. Ban AB from selling beer because they exploit Clydesdales? You’ve already ended the circus because of your skewed views.

            • Are you also for the removal of historical statues around the nation? Let’s hear what you say to that.

  10. SALT CAY – yet another victim of multiple racehorse killer CHAD BROWN.
These are the “trainers” that horse racing reveres.
The more you kill the more you get a pat on the back it seems in this industry or you get inducted into their Racing Hall of (Sh)ame or you get multiple Eclipse awards like Chad Brown.
Then this: the NYRA who just tried to put through 450 million in NY state-backed bonds (because they need the money) just bought a Churchill Downs subsidiary United Tote for hundreds of millions? although they, so far, have not released the exact amount.
It’s not even on their website, but please come forward if anybody knows or finds out.
The NY state Comptroller should find out since it’s his or her job.
For those of you who are not familiar with United Tote they are the first and only computerized wagering system in the USA that is the cornerstone of the parimutuel wagering system on a global scale.
Now, contrast this purchase with their above claim that the health and welfare of the racehorses are their highest priority and all that manure babble.
So the NYRA can spend millions buying up the premier wagering system in the USA, but can’t even implement a minimal 1% mandatory contribution to racehorse aftercare?
Nor can they clean up the corrupt trainers (based on court documents) like Linda Rice who was supposed to be suspended, but is still claiming, racing, mangling and/or killing.
They wanted 450 million to upgrade and make a state-of-the-art clubhouse for all those millionaire asses to plop down on a thicker seat cushion while they wager and watch racehorses die.
They also wanted a tunnel (according to PETA Senior VP Kathy Guillermo) from the stable area to the clubhouse.
After all, who would want to inconvenience the racehorse owners getting their feet wet in the blood of the horses dropping dead on the track or, God forbid, they get a little tussle in their ridiculous hats.
Now anybody with half a brain knows that these upgrades do absolutely NOTHING for the racehorses.
How about upgrading the racehorse facilities instead of prison cells that they are forced to endure 23 hours per day? How about some fenced in paddocks? How about some spray tents for the 100+F degree weather that they are forced to run in pumped up with dehydrating drugs like Lasix while being whipped into the ground?
Again, their lies laid to bare and, true to industry form, their jobs mantra ringing clear yet again.

    • Thank you Gina for that detailed presentation of FACTS. God forbid they spend that taxpayers money ….on the horses. Ny you are the WORST state in the USA, and you are lazy, grubby, hands out all the time leeches. Just go away you embarrassment of trolls and lying scumbags. I’m sure lots of honest people would help ya pack up. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass …. as the saying GOES.

    • Oh PETA isn’t corrupt in any way….gimme a break.

Why does PETA kill cats and dogs by the thousands instead of finding them homes? Simply, PETA does not believe in pet ownership. Ingrid Newkirk has called pet ownership “an abysmal situation.” She further elaborated on her goal for destroying the human-pet bond: “If people want toys, they should buy inanimate objects. If they want companionship, they should seek it with their own kind.”

“In the end, I think it would be lovely if we stopped this whole notion of pets altogether,” she has said.

Ridiculously, PETA has argued that outdoor cats should be summarily killed instead of allowed to live. In a 2014 interview with the Washington Post, Newkirk argued that outdoor cats would be better off dead because they might contract a future illness or be hit by a car in the future.

Your support of far left groups like PETA, and quoting them like they are anything less than another Marxist group makes your argument even more laughable.

      • I’d really get you riled up, I’m one of those pet owners that buys designer raincoats and boots for my dogs … and so much more. Your head would probably explode 😱

        • Yet, another time you haven’t answered the facts. This time over PETA and your unwavering support.
I realize you probably don’t see those facts, watching CNN all the while.

          • I think less animals should be born, I mean who wouldn’t wish that when you see how many un-adoptable animals get abused and euthanized due to no suitable forever homes. It’s not fair to them, they didn’t ask to be born into this mess/chaos. Even Jay Privman admitted recently …it’s never been about racing,it’s always just been about breeding.

            • So by that logic, less horses being bred, more horses running later in life risking greater injury or worse, death. Fantastic view. Scary.

              • Keep talkin’ JT – you’re driving home the reason for our cause with every comment. Your help is appreciated. 😉

                • PETA compares animal slaughter to the suffering of black people.

In 2005, PETA promoted the slogan, “Are Animals the New Slaves?”, and in 2007, PETA released an advertisement comparing the American Kennel Club to the KKK. In addition to this, PETA actually sued SeaWorld, claiming that five orcas should be freed under the 13th Amendment. You read correctly. According to them, five orcas are apparently the same as the forced displacement, enslavement, lynching, rape and murder of millions of black slaves, and this is somehow acceptable because, “orcas are, by definition, slaves”, according to PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk.

And let’s not forget, PETA claims that dairy products cause autism. So we must ban dairy cows.

            • It’s never been about racing? That’s the whole point of all the complaining on this site!

        • His head may be exploding now. He says he has no vested interest in horseracing, but now makes it clear that Saratoga has historical importance. 😳

          • My comments are going to be deleted? Because you don’t agree? You were the ones initially hurling insults at all NYers, then can’t handle the presentation of facts. That’s exactly what Commie liberals do. Try to Silence the dissenting viewpoint. I’ll be voting your beloved Biden out of office in 2024.

          • PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk disparages the importance of Seeing Eye dogs…

According to PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk, Seeing Eye dogs are “servants” to blind people, and she has even forcibly taken at least one dog from its blind owner. Despite doing nothing to support blind people or to dismantle the ableist system that makes it so that blind people need these services, Newkirk actively promotes their oppression and exclusion from public life by attempting to strip them of these services. Instead of accosting and shaming disabled people for needing these resources, abled people like Newkirk need to stop actively perpetrating the oppression of disabled people.

  11. Let’s all cry large tears for poor, poor Saffie Joseph Jr. who is cut to the quick by the loss of a horse that was just like family. I couldn’t even bring myself to read this fantasy bullsh*t. I feel no sympathy for the trainer, only the poor dead horse. Joseph could do everyone a large favor and quit horseracing.

    • Not only that, the article was made several hours after ALL of us had already been calling out this pure evil horse Killing!

      • No, the pure evil is abortions. That’s the pure evil. Let me help clear up your indoctrination.

    • Thank you, Jeanette. The part about the horse being an old friend is just vomit-worthy in itself as well as moronic! At four-years-old, he’s not even mature yet. He’s not even close to being old. He was not given a fair chance to live a normal life for a horse. If he had not been killed by this morally depraved and criminal enterprise of exploiting horses, he could have lived to be over 25 years old. At over 20, it’s reasonable to say a horse is old. With friends like the people in horseracing, these horses don’t need enemies.

    • Because you don’t agree with the dissenting opinion. Of course. It got stupid when you wingnuts start hurling insults against NYers.

  12. My wife is a horse owner and she went to her first ever horse racing event thinking it would be interesting to see the beautiful horses up close. Unfortunately we chose this day to go to Saratoga and this happened less than 100 feet from where we were watching. She got visibly sick and had to leave because she knew immediately Salt Cay would be put down. Needless to say she will never attend another horse race and neither will I.
