But even if death is not the ultimate result, the above are victims nonetheless, suffering painful injuries – in the case of the bleeders, pulmonary hemorrhage – so that some men may gamble, others chase pots of gold. (For any new confirmed deaths during the week, please see our running annual list.)

  1. Another sad, yet repulsive, Kill List.
Waking up this morning to some horrible news for racehorses.
Politicians in Albany, New York approved a massive taking over of the casino’s at New York tracks.
Huge Las Vegas corporations are bidding on the operations and management at Aqueduct and Yonkers.
The New York “horsemen groups” scored a major victory by securing financial protections in the new State Budget approved by politicians.
So no reductions or elimination of their guaranteed state government subsidies when this takeover occurs which are going to translate to hundreds of millions of dollars more for the racehorse abusers and killers.
These subsidies should have been completely eliminated in this new budget because the state would have made so much more money and no live racing.
Yet again, the racehorses have lost out because there isn’t even a mandatory financial contribution to racehorse aftercare, a minimum amount of earnings a racehorse makes that ensures a soft landing, no humane rules or regulations in place – back to zero all because of a bunch of politicians and a stroke of a pen.
Yet again, these “horsemen groups” have zippo neutral accountability while they will continue the widespread abuse and killing of racehorses.
So sad when will this ever end?

    • That is very sad for the New York horses. At least in our state of Oregon the justice & legal dept. said NO to a private casino at our 1 lone commercial track at Grant`s Pass operated at county owned property on a 5/8 mile track. As long as there`s $$ to be earned this “crooked, crummy, gamboling game” will continue. All subsidies just based on pure business operations sense alone should not be occurring. The voting public needs to vote out of office these politicians who waste the $$ that could be better spent on education & better health care for their citizens.
