14 Kills at Albuquerque and Zia

Through a FOIA request to the New Mexico Racing Commission, I have confirmed the following kills at that state’s tracks in 2021 (this is part 2; part 1 here). Please note, however, that covid continued to have a major impact there, with Sunland’s meet canceled and curtailed racing at a couple of the other tracks. In addition (and as always), the New Mexico records are about the worst in the nation, so I do not believe I’m capturing all deaths. In any event, here is what I do have.

Canyon Klif, Aug 22, Albuquerque R – “slab fracture left carpus”
Lilbluechicknfry, Sep 12, Albuquerque R – “bilateral sesamoid fractures”
Executive Trust, Sep 26, Zia R – “fractures [two legs] past wire”
Jess Cartel Eyes, Sep 28, Zia R – “knee fracture past wire”
Saigon Star, Oct 4, Zia R – “bilateral open, compound fractures”
Ghost Dancer, Oct 11, Zia S – “sick three days, found deceased in stall” (two years old)
Night N Red Satin, Oct 19, Zia R – “LF MC3”
Shame On Dixie, Oct 30, Zia T – “sesamoid fracture”
Doubledown Dreamer, Nov 9, Zia T – “horse fell – [multiple] fractures”
Loud House, Nov 10, Zia S – “colic death”
Lisas Special Woody, Nov 10, Zia S – “all-night colic”

  1. What were the connections thinking of while INDIAN WAR PAINT suffered for two days with compound fracture/s? This horse was raced on December 5, 2021 and euthanized on December 7, 2021. This abuse of horses must be punishable by law in New Mexico as well as everywhere else.
