Last Week…

Last week on U.S. flat tracks (racing only):

Thousand Percent “vanned off” at Parx
Launch Light Dream “fell, DNF” at Zia
Jj Shazoomin “vanned off” at Evangeline
Violent Surprise “returned bleeding from the nostrils” at Mahoning
Half Cocked “vanned off” at Turf
Irish Knockout “limped back to the paddock” at Charles Town
Jla Louisiana Flirt “vanned off” at Evangeline
Ole Town Road “bled, vanned off” at Turf
Elvis Just Elvis “bled, vanned off” at Turfway
Miss Pinkerton “vanned off” at Turfway
Golden Essence “vanned off” at Aqueduct
First Empress “fell, DNF” at Delta
American Eagle V “fell, DNF” at Lone Star
Hubbadahubbadaboom “vanned off” at Remington
Storming Warrior “bled” at Golden Gate
Navajo Creed “vanned off” at Gulfstream

While not all the “vanned” end up dead, most do, as borne out by our year-end FOIA reports. But even if death is not the ultimate result, the above are victims nonetheless, suffering painful injuries – in the case of the bleeders, pulmonary hemorrhage – so that some men may gamble, others chase pots of gold. (For any new confirmed deaths during the week, please see our running annual list.)

  1. BREAKING NEWS: Kentucky Derby participant MEDINA SPIRIT collapsed and died on the track at Santa Anita this morning!
Another victim of multiple racehorse killer and doper Bob Baffert.
The CHRB was quick to announce a full investigation into the necropsy to find out what happened.
How about the CHRB investigating whether an equine insurance policy was in place because I bet there was.
Isn’t it awfully suspicious that BB’s attorney Craig announced yesterday that the results of the test proved that Medina Spirit’s positive was due to ointment (yet no other official horse racing agency agreed or announced that) and there was huge suspicions surrounding the positive and didn’t the test tube with the sample conveniently break while being transported or something like that?
So the attorney announced that Medina Spirit was indeed the winner and then he drops dead??
I’ve called the CHRB and demanded that they release information regarding whether or not Medina Spirit had an equine insurance policy in place and I’ve asked for that to be made public information.
Bob Baffert et al at it again.

      • Exact same, Nancy! Oh My God. This is bigger than ANYTHING ELSE in this god-awful sick game these creeps call a sport.

        • What is it going to take to END this travesty of evil abuse? It is one disgusting story after another and the nightmare continues. A beautiful 3 year old has the life drained out of him. Kelly, I am in tears for him and all the other victims of these creeps.

  2. Now is the time for everyone who cares to SCREAM BLOODY MURDER about this disgusting business!!!

  3. Please call the CHRB and DEMAND that the equine insurance policy most likely in place be made public.
When you really think about it they HAD to kill Medina Spirit because they knew he would probably never perform without the drugs they probably shoved into his veins which would downgrade his alleged equine insurance policy in place not to mention the millions in breeding contracts with the ink dry on them.
This death would, most likely, make those millions in contracts obsolete and release them from any legal liability.
It isn’t awfully convenient that he died during training hours (less scrutiny) plus they knew that CHRB Equine DIrector Dr. Jeff Blea is in Tennessee at an equine conference discussing, what else, doping!
So he can’t be physically there which does make a difference.
Moreover, Medina Spirit is probably laying in the back euthanasia barn at Santa Anita with nobody watching over him making it very possible to pump whatever into him to smear any lab tests about to take place.
isn’t it all so neatly planned and placed?
The CHRB has been protecting this doper and killer Baffert for years.
They’ve immediately diverted attention away from Baffert and into the investigation into Medina Spirit’s death shifting the focus on to the racehorse and away from this killer.
True to horse racing industry form just another cover-up about to take place.
These horse racing people are sub-human and they are NOT sentient beings not in any sense of the word because they have no remorse or accountability anytime they kill a racehorse.

    • Thanks, Gina. Lots of possible scenarios, of course. But I just want to add, for those who may take your advice and try to contact the (high-integrity, super-transparent, highly credible) esteemed Board: THEY WON’T RESPOND. They don’t respond when things are going WELL for them — like when there’s only a couple Cali horse kills reported in a given week — much less when they’re facing yet another CHRB catastrophe.
Plus, they’re now (back) on official SlimeBob Suck-Up Duties. So they REALLY won’t have time to answer questions from the pesky public.

      • Absolutely Kelly and you know this because I wasn’t able to get through.
Nobody at the California taxpayer funded CHRB – a public government agency – is answering any phone.
So I left a message that will probably go unanswered.
In the least, the FBI should be called in to do their own investigation and to find out what the details are on Medina Spirit’s equine insurance policy that is, most likely, in place.
These killers with their partner attorneys know damn well that killing racehorses for insurance money is near impossible to litigate.
After all, they have a voiceless, defenseless racehorse as their victim.
Gov. Newsom should overrule the CHRB, which he can do legally, and immediately enact Bill 469 to shut down all tracks in California pending reviews.
They need to put the button on pause, in the least, but shut it down.

  4. So a horse named MEDINA SPIRIT who was, in my opinion, projected to be the third Triple Crown winner for… (get your puke buckets ready)… Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert (a barbaric buffoon as far as I am concerned) was deemed worth more dead than alive by his connections. It all sounds perfectly logical based on what we already know.
