“DOA [in the] Van”

And yet another kill to report in NY. Ekhtibaar, says the Gaming Commission, “was found DOA [inside] van at Belmont Park [yesterday]…cause of death unknown.” The 8-year-old Ekhtibaar was presumably being shipped in from Pennsylvania, where he was worked out (at Parx) November 6. He is the 95th dead horse at a NYS track this year.

  1. Who shipped the horse? We have always checked any horse or horses were hauling by watching through front window of our trailer & use of our trucks mirrors. Most large shippers should have sound & video cameras to observe horses in their trailers or vans when hauling. How sad that this poor horse undoubtedly suffered alone with no assistance!

  2. The “trainer” of EHKTIBAAR was Juan C. Vazquez, who was also the trainer of CONGRESSIONALSTORM, a gray/roan mare. She had been raced 96 times before being rescued from being “raced to death” by this ruthless trainer in this ruthless industry.
EHKTIBAAR was entered to run at Aqueduct on November 19, 2021 and had been raced 34 times.

  3. The horrors just keep coming. Was he just stuffed or piled into the van after being injured and then forced to travel. Was he able to stand, did he have a broken back. We’ll never know. I can’t imagine the tortured suffering poor Ekhtibaar must have been forced to endure as he died in a van and for how long his suffering went on as the van bounced and swerved along. These racing people know no bounds in the cruelty and abuse they inflict on their innocent helpless victims. May Ekhtibaar rest in peace.
