In a FOIA request to the Nebraska State Racing Commission, I have confirmed the following kills at Fonner Park thus far this year. Please note, however, that the Commission did not forward any stall deaths, nor were there any deaths (of any kind) reported for the state’s several other tracks. So, this list is surely not complete.
Aquina’s Advice, Feb 28, Fonner R – “racing breakdown left front, after the wire”
Mucho Super Girl, Mar 13, Fonner R – “broke down in stretch on a sloppy track”
Captain Bob, Mar 25, Fonner T – “fractured cannon” (two, being prepped for debut)
Ted W, Apr 2, Fonner T – “RF suspensories, dropped on ground” (10 years old)
Forcing horses to run at top speed carrying weight and starting them out at too young of an age is cruel and barbaric. Horse racing is a barbaric industry that must be banned in every state including Nebraska.
The people who think they are “horsemen” and continually abuse horses should be locked up in cells for 23 hours a day for the rest of their lives.
