  1. And, for the second week in a row, California racing officials prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that they’ve SOLVED their Dead Horse Crisis(!). This week’s FOUR van-offs (from the only two tracks running) equates to ZERO horse deaths in their highly-trustworthy analysis. The CHRB has perfected the science of public (non-)reporting of any and all racehorses dying OFF-SITE FROM CHRB-LICENSED FACILITY GROUNDS.
So big congratulations to Rick Arthur, Scott Chaney, and the entire, esteemed Board for successfully eliminating all of the fatal dangers to Cali racehorses.
Oh, and congrats also must go to Doc Allred, of Los Alamitos Horse Hell, for scoring a Horse Death Hat Trick in less than a week of his signature super-safe racing: I’m sure he’d be proud to report that Jess Agree, Twirling the Gold, and Taco Twosday are all doing just great, even thriving, following their on-track van-offs. That is, he WOULD be proud to report that, except that it goes against his lifelong policy of never ever acknowledging a single one of Los Al’s thousands of equine victims. And since the CHRB hasn’t recorded any of them as fatalities, all three MUST still be alive, right?

    • If refusing to acknowledge a killing of a horse being exploited as a gambling chip is part of their “new and improved safety plan” to deceive the public, it says volumes about their “character” and especially their lack of character. In a courtroom setting, it could be called “pleading the Fifth on the grounds it may incriminate.” There is no way they can wash the blood off their hands by keeping silent.

  2. Wanda, the problem is the owners and the trainers don’t see them (horses) as living , breathing, sensitive, intelligent sentient beings. The greedy egomaniac trainers see them as disposable chips. Pure evil thy name is horse trainer.

    • Bonnie, yes, the whole industry of racing is based on abusive actions against the horses. Everything about racing is for purse money (government subsidies for more purse money and more races) and gambling bets (more races, more horses running, more horses for gambling addicts to bet on, increased wagering handle) besides the breeding fees and inflated auction prices at places like Fasig-Tipton. The “goal” in this extreme exploitation of horses is to force horses to do what is extreme to the point of being completely unnatural to the horses. There is nothing about horse racing that is desirable. It has no redeeming value in that there is nothing desirable about forcing horses to be confined 23 hours a day and forced to run at high speeds for a sustained length of time starting out at too young of an age and physically tortured with whips and electrical shocking devices only to have totally demented human beings take the money and the credit for “winning” races. The performance enhancing drugs add to the diabolical evil of this whole horse killing hell. A term used by a veterinarian named Dr. Lawrence (Larry) Bramlage in “evaluating” racehorses was “everyday soreness” for the purpose of making it seem acceptable and excusable to allow a certain horse to run that was not fit to run. Supposedly, there were too many horses and not “enough veterinarians” to properly evaluate the horse to determine lameness caused by micro-fractures in the fetlocks of MONGOLIAN GROOM. In the end, the final analysis, the excuse is to say that “they trust the owner(s)” to enter their horse(s) in a race as being “fit to run” in the race entered. If it is that simple, why do they bother to have veterinarians at all??????????????? It is passing the buck because all racing participants are guilty, including the veterinarians that take an active role in the heinous abuse of horses used for racing, and for allowing injured horses to run in races.

This everyday soreness in racehorses is the consequence of everyday abuse!!!!! A true horseman or horsewoman would not abuse their horse for a vain purpose such as “winning” a race or winning a bet at the expense of the horse’s life or well-being. Trainers take glory in it. It is so depraved, vile, demoralizing and depressing.

  3. I just read on another site that Thursday, the horse that died at Aqueduct, is the second offspring out of her mother to break down and require euthanasia.
