  1. The trail of injured horses euthanized in the interests of profiteers and gambling addicts grows longer by the week.

  2. Anyone who has owned horses and worked hard to keep them healthy knows you can NOT treat them this way and have a good outcome. This is not rocket science!!

  3. It is so very sad that all these young racehorses aren’t protected enough and they end up losing their lives by just stepping on the track!

  4. This gig is up. Even the “wealthy” are not gonna spend on this corny ass bullshit. Boo hoo …so much lost (stock market) easy come, easy go,as they say.

  5. I don’t wish harm on anybody with this horrific virus, but at least it’s putting this killing business on hold for now. However, this needs to end permanently.
Horse racing is NOT a sport, it’s widespread corruption and killing of racehorses who are viewed as nothing more than disposable gambling chips.
Horse racing is a barbaric, antiquated business model that has no place now or in the future.
It’s an unnecessary gambling venue that needs to stop.
So sorry for all racehorses who were victims of these parasites.
You all need to get a life and stop beating, doping, dumping and killing racehorses.

    • And, so many of these Deaths sound like the poor horses were thrown off cliffs or hit by tractor trailers, the injuries are so horrific. What the Hell is happening? MUST be INVESTIGATED.

    From Starvation to Salvation:
    Joey’s Journey to Equine Advocates

After being starved nearly to death, “Joey” is now on the road to recovery at Equine Advocates Rescue & Sanctuary.

It was in mid-October that we were alerted to the case of a former Thoroughbred racehorse who was so emaciated, that when we sent him to Cornell, the examining veterinarian who oversaw his case described him as “a rack of bones” and scored his body condition as a “1” on the Henneke Scale.

Joey, a New York Bred, had raced with lifetime earnings of more than $253,000. His racing career ended when he was seven. Two years later, he was discovered starving and at the brink of death.

This story is very long and complicated with many twists and turns. As more is uncovered about what really happened to Joey and who was responsible for doing this to him, we are doing all we can to make sure that he regains his health and his strength as quickly as possible. Given his debilitated condition, he is being fed gradually according to doctor’s orders, but so far, so good.

Joey is now retired here at the sanctuary where he will spend the rest of his life. He is only nine and has his whole life in front of him. He arrived here on October 27, after nearly a week’s stay at the hospital where he was examined, tested, treated, vaccinated, had his feet trimmed and his teeth floated.
