From the NYS Gaming Commission: 9-year-old Check My Pulse “sustained injury to right front pastern” in the 7th at Monticello yesterday – “[euthanized] track side.”
Life for the Standardbreds is even worse than it is for the Thoroughbreds. After their 14 or so years of racing – they usually get Amished, only to be driven on hard concrete roads as fast and as far as they can go for as long as they can go, and then they wind up going to slaughter. I’ve personally seen and rescued these horses from the Amish. I only wish I could have taken them all away from their living hell with these people.
