Six Dead Racehorses in California

The latest Stewards Minutes from Golden Gate confirm the death of Califo Cat, who, according to Equibase, was “pulled up lame and vanned off” (or, in the words of the stewards, “was given a ride home in the horse ambulance”) in the 6th June 1. “Damaged” sesamoid. The 8-year-old was “For Sale” at $7,000 the day he died. In addition, there were three other kills reported – one training on May 30, and a pair training on June 3. Those names, however, were withheld.

And – in the “Vet Report” for Santa Anita for the week May 28-June 3, two “fatalities” are listed: one was Waya Ed on June 2; one remains anonymous.

This is horseracing.

  1. Four racehorses die and the industry keeps their names secret. I cannot fathom why….?
Calico Cat was given “a ride home in the horse ambulance” to get him off the track to kill him out the back. Hate to think of his suffering and fear as to what was happening to him.
Not a good look for racing to kill him in front of the racegoers.

  2. I am sharing these horrific facts on Twitter & other social media. Are there petitions I can sign?

  3. Please include a share link. I would like to share this site and these facts on Twitter, etc.

  4. i got through the Triple Crown races without betting. i was tempted. i have no money in a betting account, but it is easy to deposit money in. i do agree horse racing is wrong. I draw strength from the fact horse racing is related to the drinking of alcoholic beverages. i tell myself that horse racing was not invented so people could become professional horseplayers. I am not betting on horseraces. I am not doing any kind of gambling.

It’s hard not to. I know I can do it. I also want to spend less time online. Keep up the good work.
