Dead at Arapahoe Park, 2017

Through a FOIA request to the Colorado Department of Revenue, I have confirmed the following kills at Arapahoe Park in 2017.

No Double Dippen, April 28, training
“tendon, [but] previous injury”

Mr Wine Opener, May 19, race 3
“fell – lumbar fracture”

Contour, May 21, race 6
“MCIII fracture”

Thunderclap Newman, June 15, training
“trauma in the gate – died” (ten years old, 71 races – yet still they wanted more)

Tiznow and Forever, June 16, race 4

Panthers Fast Dash, June 30, race 2
“MCIII fracture” (two years old and already his fourth race)

Blow Me a Kiss, August 6, race 8
“sudden death following win” (two years old – “sudden death”)

In addition, the following still-very-much-active racehorses died on track grounds from what the industry deceptively calls “non-racing” causes. No matter, morally speaking they are no less casualties of this vile business than the ones above.

Give Mea Reason Baby, May 4
“colic…had history of previous colic”

Stormeor, May 13
“colic” (averaged 23.5 lengths back in 4 “career” races – trainer, Stetson Rushton)

  1. Patrick, can you please provide for me the correct wording and format for FOIA REQUESTS from government agencies?. I want to learn the names of the trainers in California who have had multiple horses which have died while under their care. I find that unless the request for such information is exactly correct the agency can/ will avoid providing the information. Also, as long as you are publishing the names of “killed” horses why are you keeping the names of the trainers secret? Please include the names of these trainers and owners along with the horses names.

    • To find owners and trainers go to Hit menu top left, click on search and enter horses name. It’s that simple. Hope this helps.

  2. I hope that in the future [as soon as possible] the bettors will turn away from this horrible. business.
I have been absent from betting ever since I saw this site., I will no longer support anything even related to horseracing,.

  3. Thank-you Richard.
I’m often accused from pro-horse racing people of being a communist, that I don’t like capitalism and/or success.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
I’m all for business, capitalism, and success, but not at the expense of innocent, voiceless, sentient beings.
Now if that qualifies for being a communist then so be it.
Gamble, have fun, increase jobs, and business, but don’t do it at the expense of racehorses, greyhounds, or pit bulls because it’s all the same only the victim is different.
Also, keep your business running by not mooching off of taxpayers money and/or corporate welfare.
It’s the tracks that are more communist, and government dependent than any business that I support!!
