These 6 horses’ lungs became so full of blood that it poured out of their nostrils!
Jolena Jo is alive and well at the farm. She is being rehabbed to be a pasture ornament. :)
Good to hear this news about this rising seven (7) year old mare but an “ornament”?
Her injury must’ve been serious to have been ambulanced off the track about 6 weeks ago.
What was her injury?
Appears to have been a good money earner at $4,937 per start clocking up 30 starts total prizemoney
$148,121.
Good to hear she is alive.,.but again, how incriminating of the racing industry – making a pasture ornament out of a young racehorse. I pray she’s with someone who really loves her and is fully committed to her…pasture pets, considered “useless” by many people, are at an increased risk of being “thrown away” as the years pass. The racing industry creates countless horses such as Jolena Jo.
She bowed her right front tendon, she will live a long and happy life at the farm. I used the word ornament merely as a figure of speech. She lives in a pasture along with other horses and truly does enjoy the life she lives now. Nobody will ever be on her back again. I don’t think this story is “incriminating of the racing industry” as rather in my opinion is a success story.
Not a success story for her in my opinion, having started in 30 races, being beaten with a whip, living the miserable life of a racehorse and then suffering an injury thanks to the stressful demands of horseracing on her body – she is another statistic.
Earned over $148,000 in prizemoney let alone the punt but that’s what it’s all about – abuse, exploit and injure her for the $$$$$$.
While I’m happy to know Jolena Jo is alive and retired I really have trouble seeing it as a “success story”. Racing almost destroyed this young mare. I guess the “success” part is that she did make it out alive and did not end up in the hands of the kill buyer. She was fortunate. That is more than can be said for countless others.
