Whipped to Perform, Returned Bleeding

America, is this what is to pass for sport – for entertainment – in 2015?

Yesterday on our horseracing tracks (from Equibase):

At Gulfstream, 4-year-old Valid Concept “lacked response, bled while racing.”

At Indiana, 5-year-old Dorothys Doll (who won) – “determined run, bled.”

At Keeneland, 4-year-old Cannon Luke – “folded up, bled.” (In the race before this one, Cannon Luke finished last of 12, 24+ lengths back.)

At Santa Anita, 4-year-old Johns Journey, “fell back…weakened…returned bleeding in the mouth.” (In the two races prior to this one, Johns Journey was a last of 9, and a “struck the rail” DNF.)

All, while being whipped. This is horseracing.

  1. This is not horse racing …it’s beating babies to death…this is horse abuse. …

  2. Until this horrible sport is eradicated completely, you will be writing these horse obituaries every day- every week. :-(
How reprehensible this so called ‘sport’ is- horses literally running for their lives or else they end up in kill pens for being poor racing specimens.

( If they don’t break down on the track first or succumb to long term injuries)

Even the winners are not spared or guaranteed a HAPPY EVER AFTER LIFE in some pasture. We have cases of them ending up in slaughterhouses: Two famed horses, Ferdinand and Exceller come to mind.

If death does not happen on the track, it comes soon enough when unwanted race horses( and actually unwanted horses of all kinds) are rounded up, auctioned off and shipped on trailers in a hellish ride to Mexico/Canada.

If they survive the trailer ride( very often unfed or and given no water or space to move), a nightmare awaits them.

They will be cruelly slaughtered for human consumption; yes, horses that are human friendly.

These are horses who tend to think humans are to be trusted, due to their prior life in human company and care.

They will be led to their deaths; and only when they get to the killing rooms will they begin to panic as their companions are killed one by one and the smell of blood, terror and death, is everywhere.

(For pet/circus/zoo food, I believe they can be legally killed and rendered for consumption right here,in the USA.)

WHEN DO HORSES GET THE ADMIRATION, RESPECT AND HELP THEY DESERVE ?

HOW MANY PEOPLE READING THE DAILY RACING OBITUARIES YOU WRITE, WANT TO BAND TOGETHER AND HELP SAVE THEM?

HOW MANY WANT TO SEE THE RACING INDUSTRY COME TO AN END?

THERE WILL BE MANY TO SAVE; AS BETWEEN HORSES IN OTHER DIRE STRAITS ACROSS THIS NATION, WE HAVE THE EXTRA PROBLEM THAT THE RACING INDUSTRY CREATES**RACING CAUSES AN ABUNDANCE OF HORSES TO BE IN NEED, DUE TO DELIBERATE OVER BREEDING! ***

    WE NEED HORSE RACING BANNED!

( If people want to begin to help, but aren’t sure how, the VERY LEAST they can do is: DON’T don’t bet on horses via OTB-Racino’s and Racetracks.)

  3. If this is what people consider to be horse racing or ENTERTAINMENT, I will not ever support this kind of entertainment or this kind of racing, where is the humanity in this kind of treatment????????

  4. That is terrible SHAME ON YOU BULLIES FOR DOING THAT HOW WOULD LIKE THAT IF SOMEONE DID THAT TO YOU SCUM BAGS THAT IS CRUELTY AND ABUSIVE TO THE HORSES THEY AREALLY BEAUTIFUL ANIMALS EVEN THOUGH I DON’T HAVE A WONDERFUL HORSE I LOVE THEM

  5. The owners and trainers should receive the same type of treatment for their “performance”

  6. Nothing but plain cruelty !! Not acceptable in any shape or form enough America !

  7. Disgust is not enough. Recoiling in horror is not enough. ***WE REALLY NEED TO BAN THIS SPORT*** Even if we do it state by state.
People who care, should support( with donations/volunteer efforts) respectable horse rescue orgs, offer to adopt/rescue a racehorse if the can, spread the word about the cruelties and crimes behind racing; and of course, encourage others not to bet on this so called*sport*!
