I have confirmed that 6-year-old Acceptance Letter was euthanized after breaking down Friday night at Charles Town. The gelding’s last six races (all cheap claiming):
June 14, 2013 – last of 8
June 29, 2013 – last of 8
July 10, 2015 (after an unexplained two-year hiatus) – last of 10
July 29, 2015 – 9th of 10
August 14, 2015 – 6th of 9
August 28, 2015 – dead.
This is horseracing.
According to equibase.com, connections as of last start for ACCEPTANCE LETTER were
JOCKEY: Juan De La Cruz
TRAINER: Erin D Johnston
OWNER: Erin D Johnston
BREEDER: Cedar Ridge Farm
18 starts: 2-0-0 for $20,444 (averaging $1,136 per start)
His first trainer and owner appear as Donnovan Haughton and Athol W Morgan, Moody Town Racing and Chuckie Inc., respectively.
As at June 29, 2013 he comes home last, still has same trainer and owners are Athol W Morgan and Chuckie Inc. AL then does not race for 2 years. On July 10, 2015 he resumes racing coming home last by 44 LENGTHS. I wonder if this horse was fit for racing given this very poor performance? His new owner/trainer is Erin D Johnston and AL is up for grabs for $5,000. Next start he comes home 23 lens 2nd last. Next start he passed some “tiring rivals” in a low grade claiming race. In his final race he was up for grabs for $4,500 BUT Chart says “broke down”.
This 6 year old gelding GAVE HIS ALL, as all thoroughbreds do.
Another noble horse SACRIFICED!
TY, Carolyn…absolutely heartbreaking. And SO unnecessary.
