Two More Dead at Charles Town

I have confirmed the deaths of two horses on back-to-back nights at Charles Town:

3-year-old Helton in the 6th race Wednesday

4-year-old Added Reward in the 8th race Thursday

How, in 21st Century America, do we continue to abide the sacrifice of sentient beings for an archaic gambling game? When will enough be enough?

Please stop betting on horse races. But as importantly, please stop patronizing racinos, for without the mandated subsidies that flow from slot machines to race purses much of American racing would collapse.

  1. HELTON was a 3 year old gelding when his life came to an abrupt end.

According to equibase.com, connections as of last start:
    JOCKEY: Arnaldo Bocachica
    TRAINER: Jeff C Runco
    OWNER: Silverton Hill
    BREEDER: Silverton Hill Farm
    Starts: 7: 1-0-1 for $11,385.

Chart says “offered a mild bid but failed to sustain the drive”.
Seems something went seriously wrong for this baby but there’s no disclosure as to what caused his DEATH…….just another horse!

  2. ADDED REWARD was a 4 year old filly who had raced for almost 2 years.

According to equibase.com, connections as of last start:
    JOCKEY: Antonio Lopez
    TRAINER: Lewis E Craig Jr
    OWNER: Lewis E Craig Jr
    BREEDER: Robert H Lloyd
    Starts: 22: 1-4-5 for $37,956.

Chart says “… three wide into the far turn and then broke down..”
Not surprisingly, it seems to have occurred on a turn.
What caused her breakdown? Seems they don’t want to tell us that…..

  3. P MILLERS CLOCK has again come home a distanced last, this time by 33 lens on 27 Aug.

According to equibase.com, connections as of last start:
    JOCKEY: Denny Velazquez
    TRAINER: Robertino Diodoro
    OWNER: Terry W Jones
    BREEDER: Bradford Thoroughbred Farm
    Starts 36: 11-8-4
Prizemoney $122,028 (averaging $3,390 per start)

PMC is a 5 year old gelding and most of his starts have been in claiming races.
It appears to me that this horse’s recent performance is indicative that he is not coping with racing.
Chart says he was “no threat” – agreed.
