After losing 16 racehorses last summer, Del Mar – “Where the Turf Meets the Surf” – is back at it again. In its inaugural minutes of the 2015 meet, the Board of Stewards reports three “deceased” for the period 7/6-7/12 – identities, alas, withheld.
Meanwhile, over at Los Alamitos, “one equine death was reported this week [ending July 12] due to racing injuries.” Once again, no name.
This is horseracing.
That’s ridiculous. Why won’t they say who died??
Interesting. The track didn’t open for training until Thurs. 7/9. So between Thurs. & Sun. 7/12 three horses died? The SD UT newspaper is usually pretty accurate in reporting horse fatalities, including one that happened before racing last year. But no mention of these fatalities. I will ask SD UT turf writer Ed Zieralski about this.
