Dead: River Lute at Belterra, Fonz at Los Alamitos

I have confirmed that 3-year-old River Lute is dead after breaking down in the 4th Saturday at Belterra. Also, the DRF reports that 5-year-old Fonz “suffered a fatal injury” in the 7th yesterday at Los Alamitos.

Two more dead horses on American racetracks. Please, if you’re going to gamble, gamble on inanimate slots and scratchoffs – leave the animals out of it.

  1. Please ask the trainer why she blinded poor Fonz with the blinder’s. Very bad judgment, horse did not respond well to restricted vision. Thank God the Jockey was not killed.

  2. River Lute had 5 starts in 4 months as a 2 year old. She was “dumped” into a $10,000 claiming race 2 weeks following her previous start. She was claimed and “broke down” in her 1st start for her new owner.

What a stressful, awful, short life this poor filly endured. Unfortunately, she is just one of the many because this is how racing operates.
