Chichita Dead at Finger Lakes

3-year-old Chichita snapped a leg and was killed in Saturday’s 1st race at Finger Lakes, her first under Sal Iorio. Chichita’s five career starts before yesterday, all under Andrew Lakeman:

Finished last of 9 April 11th at Aqueduct, 17 1/2 lengths back
Finished last of 8 May 26th at Belmont, 28 lengths back
Finished 3rd June 5th at Belmont, 37 1/4 lengths back
Finished 9th of 10 June 21st at Belmont, 15 3/4 lengths back
Finished last of 7 June 28th at Belmont, 37 3/4 lengths back

Equine welfare? Conspicuously absent.

The racing industry is losing its fan base a little more each year, and the secrets of dead and injured horses the industry used to successfully conceal are not so easily kept anymore!
