Bear’s Spirit Dead at Aqueduct

Trainer Gary Contessa recorded his second (Open Window) training death of the month when 5-year-old Bear’s Spirit broke down “breezing” at Aqueduct yesterday. The gelding had yet to run for Contessa, having just been claimed for $12,500 in March. In all, Contessa has lost 10 NY horses over the past four years. This is horseracing.

  1. Hello — This is not related to any particular post but I wonder why Delaware Park (in Delaware) never has any posts here? Do they not allow it?

  2. And the carnage continues…Put an end to the carnage – don’t bet on the horses. Bet on baseball instead!

  3. Two dead race horses this month, and 10 in 4 years. Maybe Gary Contessa should consider a different career. Doesn’t matter, it’s raining dead race horses everyday. People with authority need to make a final decision and shut down the race horse industry for good. RIP Bear’s Spirit and God help the remaining poor souls that will be forced to their deaths, too.
