Caillech’s Quest, Oriental Silk Dead

Two horses were killed in action Sunday afternoon:

4-year-old Caillech’s Quest “broke down in her left front” entering the stretch in Parx’s 4th race. The complicit connections: jockey Jacqueline Davis, trainer Michael Aro, owner Albert Tassone, breeder Hickory Tree Farm, and all priors.

3-year-old Oriental Silk fatally broke just after the wire in the 8th race at Louisiana Downs. The complicit connections: jockey Richard Eramia, trainer Preston Adams (this start), trainer John Prather Jr (first two starts), owner Michael Greer, and breeder Fares Farm.

  1. Caillech’s Quest, 14 starts for her connections, making nearly 20K. Dead at only four years old.

Oriental Silk; this dark bay three-year-old gelding had a short career as well as a short life. He ran only three times. It seems someone would have noticed it wasn’t going well for him. In his first race, he came in 7th, “lacked response”. Second race, 7th place, 30 lengths behind, “always outrun”. It was nine months before he would race again, for the last time. In his third and final race, Oriental Silk finished 9th, 28 lengths back…”steady fade, fell just after the wire”. Picture that.

RIP Caillech’s Quest and Oriental Silk.
