Three horses broke down Saturday at Penn National:
five-year-old Lov Tov in the 2nd race
three-year-old Round of Applause in the 3rd race
five-year-old Call Me Sweetheart in the 6th race
In addition, three-year-old Youngwildandfree failed to finish the 4th race, her 3rd DNF of the year.
Also on Saturday:
five-year-old Side by Side broke down in Laurel Park’s 6th race
three-year-old Quarter Horse Sonoran Cowgirl broke down in Turf Paradise’s 2nd race
three-year-old Commando Tres Seis was vanned off after Los Alamitos’ 8th race

Good, clean family fun…
And the lists go on and on. It is soo outrageous but we know this will continue because of the money. People need to stop betting on this so called sport. It is animal abuse and nobody does anything about it. Shame on those who support this industry.
Rose, I couldn’t agree with you more. Shame on those who support this horrific “sport” called racing. Also, keep in mind that some tracks don’t report breakdowns. I would venture to guess that the lack of reporting is in order to keep racing’s dirty secrets behind closed doors.
Sad to report that Liz O’Connell @NYThoroughbred tweeted: “I got an email that the horses were euth. I would welcome being wrong, though.”
Yes this mistreating of horses has been going on for years, yet nobody reacts..
Is is found to be a “natural” thing to use horses badly in all kinds of races – for money or pure entertainment ..
Very difficult to change people’s opinion about this in a world that generally accepts all kinds of suffering in the lives of animals…
Difficult, yes, but we must keep trying.
