The initial note for Mischiefs Causeway at Grants Pass Monday said, “broke down.” While that has since been changed to just “transported off via ambulance,” a trusted source tells me the “broke down” part was right and that the 5-year-old is indeed dead. His exploiters: C-Punch Ranch, Eliana Thompson, Jorge Rosales, Adrian Castellanos. Owner Thompson also had this poor boy “For Sale” (cheap: $4K) moments before he was killed.

We saw this card of races on U-Tube. Someone posts them the same night after the races are completed. When the race was shown the video did not show the poor horse breaking down. Its getting to the end of race season in Washington & Oregon. We know from experience towards the end of racing is when most injuries & breakdowns occur. Those poor horses are tired & their legs have accumulated much wear & tear on them. Of course no comments are allowed on U-Tube for this video. So much ballyhoo & hype for the last races of the year without mentioning the reality of the poor horses & how they are kept! Crummy track designed for 1/4 horse races & not for the longer strides that Thoroughbreds have. At times for certain distances the poor horses have to go around the track TWICE. At the time the temps. were also 87F! We don`t know about everyone else but temps. > 80f don`t have us feeling like running much. 1 more weekend to go for the poor horses at Grants Pass. This track is an inferior facility with the horses bedded on sawdust stored OUTSIDE in piles! One can see that during the races. We really wish Oregon would wise up & stop the subsidies to the fair meets & Grants Pass.
Nancy, that makes sense that the industry people responsible for the gruesome carnage would use that lame excuse and imply that any of these die-hard horse exploiters/abusers/killers have respect for the horses and their money grubbing connections. Thanks for the clarification.
I seem to remember someone said in late 24,early 25 …that the different administration was going to get rid of waste….implying, would get rid of horseracing.
Wanda, that was what was posted after the horror this horse endured re the video cut off. It was definitely not my take. There are people in the UK that were there or saw the event on TV that can not unsee the actual incident. If by chance I was able to get a still of the injury it is one of the worse I have ever seen and was sickening
Thank you, Nancy, but I have to say that I believe you are being too polite about the video being withheld. Everyone responsible in connection with the death of any horse, regardless of what country in the world these gruesome killings occur, did not respect the horse(s) before they ran him/her/them to catastrophic breakdowns and deaths. If they truly respected the gray, she would not have been raced to death.
Everyday there is a mishap in this sport of Kings. We should start calling it American Disgrace or a disgrace in America. Not only America though..a worldwide horror for beautiful animals. The other day in a big event in France the gray horse Fallen Angel succumbed to her injuries. They are not showing the video because it was so gruesome as a respect for the horse and her connections. Sad sad sad
