The first was Stirring Words at Saratoga: “was warming up to breeze when he staggered, collapsed on the track, and expired” – a “cardiac event,” they’re calling it. A reminder: Horses do not fully mature till the age of six. This poor boy was but three. Heart gives out, drops dead. His exploiters: Lael Stables, Cherie DeVaux (yes, that Cherie DeVaux). By the way, in his final race, last month at Saratoga, Stirring finished 8th of 9, 23+ lengths back.
