Yesterday, the New York Racing Association recorded a pair of training kills. The first was Stirring Words at Saratoga: “was warming up to breeze when he staggered, collapsed on the track, and expired” – a “cardiac event,” they’re calling it. A reminder: Horses do not fully mature till the age of six. This poor boy was but three. Heart gives out, drops dead. His exploiters: Lael Stables, Cherie DeVaux (yes, that Cherie DeVaux). By the way, in his final race, last month at Saratoga, Stirring finished 8th of 9, 23+ lengths back.
At Belmont, this for Believe in America: “stumbled; euthanasia elected due to horse not responding sufficiently to medical treatment.” Must have been quite a “stumble,” huh? Believe was two, and she was being prepped for her debut. Trainer, Thomas Morley.

Wanda, we read of that Belmont park grandstand # in the Blood horse. We kinda thought it might have been a mistaken figure. Either way a terrible waste of $$ that should be going to the people of New York & not a “Crooked, Crummy, Gamboling game.”
Fred and Joan, as you may know, a judge had ruled that the $455 Million NY State-backed bond loan “to the NEW YORK RACING ASSOCIATION” was mostly for the benefit of the “public” and only a small benefit to private interests. How’s that for a can of worms?!!!!!
Meanwhile, the New York Assembly Members and others have their hands tied in the pursuit of terminating government subsidies, such as Video Lottery Terminal Payments, to horse racing. In a nutshell, the PUBLIC who needs those government subsidies can go urinate up a rope.
Have just read that the new Belmont park cost 500 BILLION $$!! What a terrible waste of taxpayers $$ being used to finance the bonds issuance. Ugly, Ugly structure as well! No class in design. Have been to the old grandstand which with its ivy & brick had some old charm to it. Glad we were able to see the old one in 1986 before being demolished & replaced by this ugly monstrosity. We hope NYRA fails just like Hawthorne in Chicago.

So much of this is hidden by the media and other sites.. There needs to be a daily site that posts all the deaths in every state , in every racing venue and why and what happened. If you are watching a horse racing channel when something happens they immediately turn it to the commentator and will not allow the viewing audience see it afterwards.. This is wrong. It is not done in football or any other sport. Why this sport. So many equine athletes die and are put down in this sport . it is wrong AND they are forgotten as if it never happened.
I was away from the computer for 3 days just learned of the horrendous agonies of both Aloha Beach and the immeasurable pain and suffering that was imposed on Bruhn (pelvic fracture plus two legs pinned together prior to the fatal pelvic injury)! Revolting State of Kentucky needs to hear what the public thinks about these atrocities. I’ve said it before that the accumulated evidence substantiates that horseracing is the equivalent of the Nazi death camps of the 40s.
Today I came upon a video that sustains my assessment of horse racing. The Mayor of Lexington, Linda Gorton is promoting Breeder’s Cup celebrations on the net and crowing that Lexingtonians are so excited. And, of course, the week long celebrations she vaunted will generate much needed funds for the city! Please folks, send the history of Bruhn and Aloha Beach to this person(?) and remind her that drug poisoned horses dying horrific injuries and death agonies offends authentic blood and flesh human beings, but monsters who receive blood soaked funds are the dross of the earth. My question for this woman is “Who is the daddy of the State of Kentucky? Is the poppa the devil? And, who is the momma, Jezebel? When citizens of Kentuckians are not repulsed and revolted by this celebration and refuse to take action against crimes of this nature then somebody grab a shovel a dig a grave for the Statute of Liberty because America is dead in heart, mind, soul, and conscience. Perhaps somebody in the computer audience could do a Paper Mache version of both horses indicating how they died and drive these Paper representations down the main thoroughfares of the city of Lexington to shame the citizens of Kentucky into doing justice for abused race horses. Both horses deserve to be remembered so that other equines will not suffer as they did.
In my experience over the course of several years, riding a horse that stumbled did not cause an injury. I remember the time in about 1962ish when I was riding a Palomino stallion at a walk inside the pasture and barnyard area. He stumbled. My dad said to not let him do that. I didn’t know the horse was going to stumble and I don’t know how to stop a horse from stumbling. The horse did not suffer any injuries from a simple stumble at a walk.
This idea that these so-called horsemen can say that a horse stumbled, and with no explanation, say that the horse required euthanasia is just totally and outrageously dishonest!!!!! These undesirables in the equine industry get away with way too much!!!!!
It’s a sad state of affairs and it’s outrageous that Animal Cruelty, in this case, abusing horses and killing them, has been subsidized by the state government!!!!!
As soon as I read this post earlier today, (being a little mean )that Stirring Words will only be an afterthought as the focus undoubtedly is on the grandiose Travers Day. Surely the booze is flowing and the money is keeping the bettors hands in their pockets. We can hope that any beautiful.creature running today will.not be on the weekly Monday list.
Understand, I don’t wish death or suffering upon any living thing, but… if a horse is going to be killed or mortally injured I prefer it to be live on national TV with everyone watching. Give me a celebrity martyr. Give me a Ruffian, a Barbaro. Give me tears in the grandstands and people walking out vowing never to return. At least then the death was not in vain, that the reality is known, and there is the remote chance that the conscience of the general public can be stirred to action. It’s true, “The news is where you look.”. But because of political pressure spurred by monetary interests, the world is being discouraged from looking in the right place. Death alone in a stall or while training is the real story, but we are being asked to look at Cherie Devaux jumping up and down with joy and share in her accomplishments. Meanwhile, the corpses of “insignificant”, “ordinary” horses pile up behind the scenes. Keep at it Patrick.

It is Travers Day. Cherie Devaux is the big headline as her KY Derby winning horse, Golden Tempo, is running in the Travers.
Also, Tom Morley’s wife, Maggie Wolfendale, is one of the most high profile NYRA spokespersons. The Travers is big news on social media. This post alone is the perfect comeback.
