For the second day in a row at one of America’s crown-jewels tracks, Del Mar, a dead horse. Can You Dream, says the chart, “sustained an injury, eventually fell, and was transported off via ambulance.” The track later confirmed the 3-year-old was “humanely euthanized.” The complicit: breeder Hanson’s River Ranch, owner Jaime Roberto Renella, trainer Rafael DeLeon, jockey Edgar Payeras. Dream was also “For Sale” the day she died.

As long as people make wagers, horses will die! This is not a sport! This is a cruel, vile industry where horses suffer from greed! Stop attending, stop betting!
So who is impressed with the statement that “track officials and the California Horse Racing Board maintain strict on-site veterinary evaluation protocols and are reviewing both breakdowns”…?
Two dead horses for opening weekend and this is what they got; the same line of obligatory baloney for tragedies that happened because track officials and the California Horse Racing Board are in this business that depends on horses being forced to overextend themselves with a jockey on their backs whipping them to go faster and longer until they can’t go at all.
