War Anthem in the 9th at Aqueduct yesterday: “dropped back in upper stretch and tired, then suffered an injury [Commission said, ‘broke down’] in the final 16th and was euthanized on the course.” He was three years old. Complicit in the kill: breeder Sugar Plum Farm, owner Saratoga Ten General, trainer Michelle Nevin, jockey Ruben Silvera.
At the exact same time War Anthem lay dying out on the track, this – the “Winner’s Circle” celebration – was taking place. A “sport”? Only to callous idiots.
I will be so glad to see this hell hole close.

Does not look good as we did see her pass the finish line. Bore way out in turn before video was panned away from what happened. Race #1.
Nancy, “Worship the dirt we killed horses on with this jar of dirt” seems to be the message. Whether or not the dirt is from the actual racetrack is a valid question just because of the credibility issue of diehard racing industry people including the New York Racing Association members. It’s truly psychopathic in my view.
Wanda, if in fact they take the “dirt” from the track and not the nearest garbage dump, there has to be DNA in it. What a travesty. Another ploy to try and make themselves look good.
Catastrophic injury to right foreleg.
There will be a nine-race card on “closing day” for Aqueduct racetrack, Sunday, June 28, 2026. As a souvenir of this so-called historic day, the first 1,000 fans through the door will receive a small mason jar containing dirt from the “Big A” main track.
I doubt that any of this dirt will contain VISIBLE fragments of shattered bones of horses exploited to literal death for gambling, greed, and entertainment. It is a no-brainer that there have been untold numbers of horses that did break down catastrophically with shattered bones over the days, weeks, months, years, and the decades of forcing horses to gallop at top speed under the weight of a rider carrying a whip/riding crop and most likely an illegal electric buzzer to further abuse and torture the horses and push them to and beyond their breaking point.
Some necropsy reports have had notes in them about horses with shattered bones and that not all the pieces of bone fragments could be found in the dirt of some racetracks.
Is it even possible for 1,000 people to show up for the closing day of this racetrack in this day and age where the horse racing industry is so desperate to stay in business that they depend on millions and billions of dollars of subsidies and a $450-Million State-Backed Bond Loan to provide the funding to keep a business afloat that has been constantly and continually falling out of favor over the years with the majority of the American people since about the late 1980s???
Who wants a jar of dirt??? You can’t put it in your gas tank, but you might accidentally drop it on the cement or the pavement in which case you may clean up the mess, the fragments of glass, and think of the untold numbers of horses that had their bones shattered into pieces for gambling, greed, and vomit-inducing entertainment.
