With the Belmont Stakes just around the corner, Saratoga Race Course is open for business – the business, that is, of abusing and killing horses. Victim #1 was felled training a week ago today (the Commission just disclosed it). This poor babe was so young he hadn’t even been christened yet. Last summer, you might remember, Saratoga notched 21 kills – a toll that matched its all-time high.
Also, one day after Old Man Winter was killed at Finger Lakes, Chioke was euthanized at that same track “for an unresolved medical condition.” He had just turned three.
