64 Horses Injured or Sick at Turfway Over Just 10 Racedays

Over the course of just 10 days at Turfway (Feb 18-Mar 5), 30 horses were scratched by the regulatory vet – i.e., their exploiters had every intention of racing them – for being “injured” or “unsound,” and another 34 by private vets for being “injured” or “ill.”

In addition, say the stewards:

“Saki Bomb was injured in the paddock and scratched.”

“Pickle Shoes was injured in the paddock and scratched.”

Then this at Mahoning Tuesday: While the weather, according to the chartwriter, started as “cloudy, 23” for race 1, by race 4 it was “snowing,” with this additional note: “The view of this race was obstructed by a snowstorm.”

This is horseracing.

  1. Has Laurel race track has Laurel race track in Maryland in investigated yet. I know sunrise stables owned by the Eubanks trainer Annette Eubanks is at Laurel and has horses there. I know there’s a lot on their farm too that were very young and goodness why they died being babies but they did . Again I know there was a border on their farm in in Lothian Maryland that had a couple babies die and are buried there. One of the borders lost their babies do to botulism at birth which is as far as I know was not reported by the veterinarian or the owners I don’t even think it was reported to the government as it was supposed to be and the veterinarian did not report it either I do not believe which was Doctor s t o t t. This farm is advertised as a track layout farm and I have to tell you it’s pitiful. There’s no track to exercise the horses at all back to recovery. This farm is called next to the last ride because that’s what happens sadly these people need to be checked out thoroughly

  2. Only the diehard abusers of horses would plan to run sick and injured horses. Turfway has a history of “licensed?” trainers who evidently get their kicks by being as sadistic to the horses as they can without getting their names in the newspaper for over the top Animal Cruelty.
To refuse to cancel the day’s races at Mahoning when they know that it is bad weather and snowing is ridiculously insane.
What happened to the regulators of horse racing? How does that work at Mahoning? Does someone just slip the “regulator(s)” envelopes full of cash under the table? Do the regulators then go get drunk and say whatever they think people want to hear? How does that work at Mahoning?
Is there anyone watching and gambling on the races at Mahoning especially during snow storms? Does anyone at the casino gambling venue care if they can see the horses they bet on? Is everyone so drunk they don’t care?

  3. Idiots! Whats the point of races you can`t see! At those temp.s races & all hard exercise should be canceled. We`ve galloped horses as the Portland Meadows racing surface was freezing up under the horses hoofs we we`re riding. Later that day all the hwy.s were shutdown because of all the ice & snow for 2 weeks. This business is clearly only for the $$ not the horses as we later found out.
