Longtime HW supporter Rick Bowman has posted the following to his LinkedIn account. It serves to remind that we should never miss an opportunity to advocate. Thanks, Rick.
“I’ve been called a lot of names because of my passion for the welfare of animals. I’m especially vocal in my concern for horses. There is a reason – at one time I owned, bred, and raced Thoroughbreds at some of the top tracks in the country. As I became more involved, I saw things that the public never sees, and I was sickened. I guess now I’m just trying to make amends for ever being involved in racing.
“It is my hope that animal lovers everywhere will go to the website Horseracing Wrongs and read Patrick’s Blog. This website contains documents obtained via FOIA that proves what many of us have known all along. You will be shocked and sickened, but please read it. You will never look at horseracing the same again.”

‘SOCIOPATHIC GREED’ is a term that definitely applies to the richest people in horse racing and some maybe not so rich. Financial gain is prioritized over ethics and the welfare of the horses.
The horse in horseracing is strictly a commodity and no amount of name calling or gaslighting changes the fact that greedy people are greedy and cruel.
So good to see your name again Joy. I’m on bsky social now. Have a wonderful peaceful new year 🫶
Thank God for Rick Bowman to listen to his conscience instead of bludgeoning it to death; to admit to the truth of the dark side of horse racing instead of denying the reality that horses are forced to do unnatural things until they are crippled and/or dead.
Thank you, Rick…and thank you, Patrick & Nicole, for your years of service to and for so many animals who’ve suffered neglect, abuse, exploitation and death.
Let’s have the others involved in this “sport” take Mr. Bowman’s lead. How great would that be for us here and of course the beautiful horses.
This is a powerful and sobering statement. Rick Bowman’s willingness to speak honestly about his firsthand experience carries real weight especially because it comes from someone who once believed in the industry from the inside. Too often criticism of horseracing is dismissed as coming from people who “don’t understand it.”
Investigative work like Patrick Battuello’s exposes truths the industry works hard to bury. If we truly care about animals, especially horses, who give everything and have no voice, we can’t look away. Reading, sharing, and speaking up are necessary acts of accountability. Silence only protects the status quo.
