Over the course of just 9 days at Turfway (Dec 3-18), 20 horses were scratched by the regulatory vet – i.e., their exploiters had every intention of racing them – for being “injured” or “unsound,” another 28 by private vets for being “injured” or “ill,” and 2 horses who were “claimed” (bought) prior to races were subsequently returned to their sellers because they finished said races physically compromised in one way or another (one suffered pulmonary hemorrhage).
In addition, say the stewards:
“American Bear was injured in the paddock and scratched.”
“Sassagoula River was injured in the paddock and scratched.”
“Backstretch returned lame and required the horse ambulance.” (The chart said nothing of this.)
Then this:
“#12 Vinalia was injured in the starting gate and was scratched. The horses were unloaded while the mutuels department processed the scratch, and before the reloading began #9 Zoom Zoom Ayla flipped over and fell behind the gate and was also scratched.”

Mahoning results and entries showing Mo came in fourth.
Sorry, I forgot that races were canceled on December 17, 2025, so MO DONT NO wasn’t raced that day but I suspect that Radosevich had him doped up and ready to run.
All of this inherently insensitive mistreatment of horses is very bad for the digestive system in horses aside from the damage to the bones and muscles of the horse.
The weather at Mahoning Valley Race Course in Youngstown, Ohio is 35°F to 37°F with wind speed of 2 to 7 mph. That is combined from two different sources. Both sources say it’s cloudy. It sounds like they are desperate to get through the end of the month and the year. This will be the third time MO DONT NO has been raced this month; December 2025.
Mo Don’t No scheduled to race TODAY at Mahoning race 2 at 12:43. He is horse #8. No holidays for these horses,is there?
This shows not only the cruelty to the horses but also the dishonesty and the incompetence of trainers of Thoroughbreds in Kentucky. Why are the trainers not having their licenses revoked or at least suspended?
I think if the racing commissioners revoked the license of any of these sadistic people, they eventually would not be able to fill the race card and that would be just terrible for their bottom line, would it not?
Exploiting horses for racing and gambling is definitely Animal Cruelty!
