Be His Voice, Please

In October, I posted about Mo Dont No twice – here, and here. At the time of the second, the 12-year-old was about to be raced for the 93rd time. That race, at Mahoning, happened – and two more followed at that same track.

Today, at Mahoning, Mo is scheduled for the whip again – that would be #96. Please take a moment to process that. In the necropsies, we see time and again 4-, 3-, even 2-year-old horses dying with chronic conditions like osteoarthritis and DJD – sometimes in all four limbs. Can you even begin to fathom the state of this poor boy’s body? The number of lashes he has absorbed? The amount of drugs that have coursed through his system? The over-a-decade of unremitting confinement and isolation?

Here are the same contacts I put in the last post. It’s up to you to be his voice.

  1. Just a tidbit for anyone who is interested..Tamara is the “baby” of the magnificent Beholder! Both trained by Richard Mandela.

  2. Thank you, Brian. It appears that New York has the highest number of dead racehorses recorded on the Horseracing Wrongs website.
In my opinion, setting an age limit at the NYRA racetracks makes sense to create the illusion of fewer racehorses breaking down catastrophically on their racetracks.
Trainers at the NYRA racetracks with horses that are 10 years of age and older may take them to Parx in Pennsylvania. There is no age limit for Thoroughbred racehorses in Pennsylvania.

  3. HISA appears to have no plans to age limit race horses. NYRA and Woodbine no longer allow horses to be 10 years old or older, and Gulfstream no longer allows horse to be 11 years old or older. Obviously no limits in Ohio or West Virginia.

More trainers are caught every week with drugs in the horses’ systems. Richard Mandala just had a G3 victory in October taken away for a failed drug test. The horse, Tamara, had not run all year before the race in October and interestingly was scratched by the vets on Breeders Cup day.

  4. Marie, the horse being injured badly and the screen going up means a euthanasia in progress as far as I know. I would never have any hope at all for a horse to be kept alive after the screen goes up.
When I said I don’t know what Mr. Jeffrey Radosevich does to get MO DONT NO to win so many races is that I don’t have first-hand information to prove [in a court of law] what drugs he injects into the horse or how much or exactly what his timing is for the testing window of not being caught doping racehorses and doing anything else illegal according to the HISA rules or even the Ohio State Racing Commission rules on drugs and doping racehorses.
On the entries information, it says Med: L for MO DONT NO. So, other than Lasix, I don’t know what drugs this horse is given.
I would be interested to know what he does that violates the rules and have proof. I would love it if he could be caught doping racehorses and fined and suspended at the very least.

  5. Yippee Ki Yay was the other horse – same connections as Mo- “injured and vanned off” this year. Though, as I said, screen was up, and the horse has not surfaced since, so will not be surprised to see him on the Ohio year end report.

  6. Wanda- I DO, and it’s not good, contrary to what CS says.
Also, Radosevich’s “track record” is not the best. Brownie was his horse last year when she broke down, making nation-wide horse racing news when the breakdown caused the jockey to be hospitalized after breaking his pelvis. He was also the trainer for Zippit Yankee, the horse with the well-known history of hating the starting gate, who was then forced to get in the gate one last time, ripping his tail out and disemboweling himself.
He had another horse recently vanned off- I can’t remember how the horse’s name was spelled, but I’ll find it- and I saw the screen was up- so I don’t have high hopes he was vanned off alive.

  7. Thank you, Marie. I was going to say that his claiming price for today’s race was $8,000. Now I can imagine that MO DONT NO is all juiced up and ready to run but I don’t know what Mr. Jeffrey Radosevich does to get him to win so many races…😜

  8. He’s now the favorite! Great tip on a great horse! He’s been so well cared for all of his life as a racing thoroughbred! Let him do what he loves and does so well.

  9. Racing for today has been cancelled after the first couple races. Thank goodness, the track looked REALLY bad.

  10. I demand is immediate removal this needs to be retired give him a break will you please don’t you think he had enough cruelty and abusing his wife come on have a heart

  11. Reply from Ohio Racing Commission:

    Ms. VanDusen:

Thank you for reaching out. This horse is a “Covered Horse” under HISA. Ohio rules are preempted by federal law.

Please contact HISA, I have copied their link for your convenience. https://hisaus.org/contact-us

  12. He`s clearly a damn good horse! Geldings are the most abused & hardworking stalwarts of this “Crooked,Crummy, Gamboling Game. He has earned more $$ than our entire family in their lifetimes in just the several years he has been racing. Enough is enough! 10 years! We wish we were closer! We would place a claim in for him & gen him out of there! We have ridden MANY experienced, very forgiving claimers, who kept us safe when 1st starting to gallop with a proper license at recognized tracks. We hope he does not end up like Lethal Grande here in Oregon some years ago. Make the calls people! We have to be his voice!!

  13. Unfortunately, it is legal to race a 12-year-old horse; and as long as we have no person with extensive first-hand knowledge of lameness and unsoundness without taking x-rays from this group able to *see the horse, MO DON’T NO, in person* and determine how much bigger his joints are than they should be and if his way of going reveals any sign of pain and various other signs that he is unfit to race, they will race him today. Tough cookies.
If whoever the veterinarians are that pass horses to race at MAHONING say MO DON’T NO is fit to race, Jeffrey Radosevich and Samuel Klein, Jr. are not going to have a sudden attack of conscience. They appear to have a legal right to make a choice that I see as unethical and immoral. The horse has earnings of ONE-MILLION PLUS DOLLARS but that is not enough for people like these people.
Is there anyone from this group who has the wherewithal to see NO DON’T NO in person? That is, while he is still alive…?

  14. ENOUGH.

Today at Mahoning Valley, industry officials are knowingly sending a 12-year-old horse out to be whipped for the 96th time. This is not ignorance. This is not bad luck. This is deliberate cruelty sanctioned by the track, the trainers, the owners, the stewards, and the regulators who allow it. Ask the people responsible:
    • How much pain is he in today?
    • How many drugs does it take to keep him on the track?
    • How many lashes will it take before his body finally gives out? Mo Dont No has no legal standing, no vote, no voice. We do. Contact Mahoning Valley. Contact the Ohio Racing Commission. Demand his immediate removal and lifetime protection.

If this continues, it is because people in power choose profit over suffering and because the rest of us let them.

Do not be silent. Silence is consent.
