Two horses I reported as “vanned off” at Los Alamitos Sunday have been confirmed (CHRB) dead: Backside Ace in the 7th; Champions Run in the 8th. Both were but two years old – equine babies. For Los Alamitos, this makes it 29 (acknowledged) kills this year.

Forced exercise for horses especially galloping at the age of 18 months to two years old is fundamentally wrong and abusive. A lot of bad things can happen; forced exercise speeds up the inevitable occurrence of injuries, bone and joint abnormalities, and premature death.
Why are there so many people who don’t care and still participate in this inhumane treatment of young fillies and colts????? It has to be the greed for the almighty dollar.
The fact that the Bob Hope Invitational race for two-year-olds did not attract enough young and underdeveloped fillies or colts to fill the race and was canceled for 2025 was terrifically good news!!!!!
Young, underdeveloped, immature horses exploited for racing and gambling are candidates for bone and joint problems. Degenerative Joint Disease in the two-year-olds in California doesn’t get reported on the same level as Maryland, but I have no doubts that the percentage of young horses with DEGENERATIVE JOINT DISEASE is just as high in California as it is in Maryland.
The forced exercise and suffering inflicted on the horses is abuse which leads to premature death for so many horses.
