Follows is what passes for an obituary in the horseracing industry, this one at Mountaineer last night: “Your Trophy Girl took a bad step [the announcer said, ‘went amiss’], having to be euthanized on track.” Your Trophy was four years old, and this was her 22nd time under the whip. She had also been listed “For Sale” by her love-them-like-children “connections” – E.J. Hubel, Jami Poole – the day she died.
Also, the CHRB says Bonus Tornado died at Los Alamitos Sunday. This one is patently misleading, for although it’s been categorized as an “other” (i.e., not racing or training), Bonus had been raced one week prior: “bad step, equine ambulance.” So, it appears this poor boy was made to suffer with a what-proved-to-be fatal injury for a week.

Earlier on Tuesday, there was a “spill” at Horseshoe Indy. Race 7 on turf for 2 year old fillies. The 84-1 longshot went down in the stretch. The jockey walked away. Surprisingly, the race replay is available and the announcer acknowledged the accident multiple times, mostly commenting on the health of the jockey.
Serial killers of horses don’t love horses for what they can do for the horses.
Serial killers of horses love what the horses can do for them.
Serial killers of horses love the fact that they can exploit horses to literal death and not be held accountable to the laws regarding animal cruelty or the more specific laws against abuse and neglect of horses exploited for racing and gambling.
If the Paulick Report would report on the reasons why there should be a WALL OF SHAME with the names of the owners/trainers/jockeys and the names of the horses they are responsible for causing fatal injuries to, we would have a form of progress.
Every time I see something about the Hall of Fame trainers, or anyone else who puts these horse-abusing thugs on a pedestal as if they are to be “respected” and “admired”, I am repulsed!
RIP, Your Trophy Girl and Bonus Tornado.
