“Pulled Up While in Distress, Euthanized on Track” at Gulfstream

How did Ocala Rocket do in the 6th race at Gulfstream yesterday? Well: “Ocala Rocket settled off of the early pace, coaxed along two wide nearing the half-mile marker, lost action and was injured into the far turn, was pulled up while in distress and was euthanized on the track.” Just another dead performer in the arena. Sounds a bit like ancient Rome, huh? Ocala was four years old; ’twas his 20th time under the whip.

  1. The detachment and lack of emotion in any of their descriptions of injury and death is chilling. It’s like they are talking about inanimate objects, which is, I suspect, how they think of the horses.

  2. It’s like bread and circus, thrills and spills…
Unless something happens, its boring and interests no-one.
(Poor Ocala Rocket. I seriously wish Americans would realize how depraved horse racing is.)
