2-Year-Old Wins, Dies at Los Alamitos

Warm Springs, an “equine ambulanced” in the 9th at Los Alamitos Saturday night, is confirmed dead. The CHRB only says, “non-musculoskeletal” – which likely means the 2-year-old just keeled over and died. All was not lost for Warm’s exploiters, however, for you see she “won” the race before dying, and with it $3,300.

This is horseracing.

  1. Nancy, I noticed the same thing, as well as the runner basically grabbed her harshly and started dragging her behind him even though she was having a hard time walking.
I noticed a couple guys walk up to the group with the horse, I’m assuming they were vets, and then the jockey hopped off. NO ONE, as far as the connections, seemed concerned that she could barely walk and just kept dragging her along and yapping to each other while she was struggling. That’s the quality of “horseman” out there nowadays. The lack of knowledge and concern over an injured horse is pathetic.

  2. It is sickening to think that this routine mistreatment of horses that causes fatal injuries to horses at Los Alamitos might take the death of the owner of Los Alamitos racecourse, Ed Allred, for this particular racetrack to close. Even then, it might not end since there are so many other people in cahoots with him to keep the breeding and racing operations going. It depends on various factors but I sincerely hope that Los Alamitos racetrack will be shutdown once and for all within the next 5 years. Hopefully, sooner.

  3. Replay…the #2 horse went down on her knees out of starting gate and was last the whole race. The winner #7 on the way back to winner circle could hardly walk and was unsaddled off to the side. The announcer said she wasn’t going to the winners circle. Just pathetic.
