Mo Dont No was born (made) in 2013 and first raced two years later. 90 more races and over $1.3M in “earnings” followed. And yet, they’re not done with him. Mo’s current (there have been plenty) exploiters – Samuel Klein and Jeffrey Radosevich – have entered Mo to be raced tomorrow at Thistledown. 12 years old, about to be put to the whip for the 92nd time. There’s the inherent, everyday cruelty, and then there’s the cruelty that just goes a notch or two above. Let Thistledown and the Ohio Racing Commission hear you. Tell them enough’s enough; send this poor boy to a pasture.

(It’s a good idea to hit them all.)

  1. That “Dr.” Shell is a real piece of work; he claimed that Hemo 15 is a vitamin, not a drug. Yeah, right, like the legal experts don’t know what the …. they are doing. His absolute stupidity is laughable but the fact that he can break the drug rules multiple times in 2023 & 2024 and still be allowed back to work at a racetrack in 2025 is beyond disturbing. Way to go, JACK Entertainment (sarcasm!).

  2. And Wanda – regarding Mo’s joints, I can only imagine. But what is out there for the public to see is the case against track vet, Dr. Shell, who is suspended in Ohio, as of now. In the documentation provided by HIWA, Mo Don’t No was administered the compounded Hemo15, which, per HISA rules, is an illegal substance due to the compounding formulation.

  3. Can’t trust anything these guys say. Thistledown let a horse race yesterday who was clearly lame. I could tell the vet and the jockey were both concerned, but they let the horse race anyhow. Though the horse got a 2nd place and didn’t break down (that we know of), I can only wonder how off that horse is today.
I suppose we should be calling HISA since they are the ones who regulate many of the racing rules, and, as Patrick said, they have no age limit, maybe we should be working on changing that.

  4. It’s very improbable that MO DONT NO will live to be 13 years old, in my opinion. There are no rules against running a horse into the ground as long as the “team of veterinarians” give “the green light” for his owner and trainer to run him. I would really like to see some documentation of just exactly what condition his body is in especially his knees, hocks, fetlocks, and pasterns. I would also like to see his hooves. I live too far away and I would be shocked if they would allow anyone to have information like that to share with anyone outside of their immediate jurisdiction.

  5. They will run him and wring out every last ounce of his strength until he breaks down and has to be euthanized. Then they will wring their hands and say how cherished he was. These people are empty shells.

  6. I received an email reply to my request that MO DONT NO be scratched from the race today from “Patrick” at JACK Entertainment.
He appreciates my concern but there are no rules in Ohio or HISA against racing 12-year-olds. He states that “Mo Don’t Know” will be given a pre-race exam by their team of veterinarians and he will be watched in the paddock and up to the start of the race.

  7. Thank you, Elizabeth. That is very well stated. I sent a shorter message to Thistledown on the contact form.
I received an automatic email reply with the number to call.

  8. Subject: Stop Exploiting Mo Dont No — Enough is Enough

To the Ohio Racing Commission and Thistledown officials,

How utterly disgraceful that a 12-year-old gelding, Mo Dont No, with 91 races behind him and over $1.3 million “earned” for others, is still being forced onto the track. After a decade of service and relentless pounding, what possible justification remains for subjecting this animal to another round of whipping and stress?

This isn’t “sport.” It’s greed, plain and simple at the expense of a living, sentient being who’s already given more than enough. Every race at this age chips away at what’s left of his body and spirit. No amount of euphemistic talk about “care” or “retirement planning” changes the fact that this is systemic cruelty, endorsed by those who should be protecting horses, not exploiting them to their last breath.

Thistledown and the Ohio Racing Commission have an opportunity here to show decency, compassion, and a shred of moral leadership. Retire Mo Dont No now. Let him live out his days in peace instead of squeezing one more dollar from a broken body.

The world is watching, and your silence speaks volumes.

  9. HISA has no age limit on Thoroughbreds for racing. Standardbreds have an age limit of 13 years old.
Passing a pre-race exam and being deemed “sound” is the requirement regardless of age to race.
So, who at Thistledown gets paid to pass unfit and unsound horses to race and fudge the paperwork to make the record show that the horse was sound pre-race???
I absolutely hate it when an owner and/or a trainer says that a horse with a BROKEN SESAMOID BONE is sound. Yeah right. In the case of SECRET OATH, a BROKEN SESAMOID BONE was a career ending injury. She was absolutely NOT SOUND.

  10. In parx 9th race Monday noneedtoworry no matter what claiming price always trails always last give this horse break he needs to retire they will keep racing him til a breakdown I thought non competing horsescant race at parx after so many tries
