“Injured, Euthanized on Track” at Mountaineer

The full chart note for Twinspiredjoey in the 5th at Mountaineer last night: “Twinspiredjoey was always outrun, was injured pulling up and euthanized on track.” And that’s that. Twinspired was six years old, and this was his 25th time under the whip. He was also “For Sale” – for about the price of a cheap ($6,500) used car – the day he died.

  2. A six-year-old horse, just coming into his full adulthood, and already run into the ground, run literally to death, and thrown away like an old bicycle. It makes me so sad, and so angry. How is this allowed to go on?

  3. Gary Welsh is listed as the trainer of TWINSPIREDJOEY.
    The fact that any trainer who is suspended by a HISA covered racetrack can go to Mountaineer to abuse and kill horses for racing and gambling and not be turned away is beyond evil.
    Mountaineer is a hole-in-the-wall gang of horse-abusing thugs who cause fatal injuries to horses without fear of being punished or suspended.
    They can continue to ply their trade and commit the worst kind of offenses. Something has to be done to draw more attention to this atrocious miscarriage of anything remotely resembling justice.

  4. Bailey Weatherly was the jockey for TWINSPIREDJOEY as well as for HE’S THE SOUPERWON in June of 2024; the post is under EVERYDAY OBITUARIES (Horrible, Just Horrible) dated June 25, 2024.
    Mountaineer should be under more scrutiny by the “safety” experts from the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority, in my opinion.
    That trainers who are rejected from other racetracks can go to Mountaineer is appalling.

  5. Replay..”Whoever” made damn sure the horse hobbled across the finish line and I mean hobbled is putting it mildly.

  6. Whatever happened, happened off camera, as by the time the horses were jogging back after the gallop out, the jockey (who somehow seems to be involved in a lot of the on-track horse deaths at mountaineer) was casually walking back without a horse.
    Joey actually looked to take a bad step on the backstretch, but the jockey kept going with him until whatever happened after the race.
    Of note, the 4 horse also looked to be very lame while jogging back, but I am guessing the staff at mountaineer was too busy with whatever happened with Joey to notice.

  7. The killing of horses is so routine at Mountaineer that the chartwriter seems to have the attitude that it is just another boring day at the track.
