The entire chart note for Billy the Greek at Mountaineer last night: “Billy the Greek pulled up in the stretch, was euthanized on track.” And that is that. Next “equine athlete” up. Vile doesn’t quite capture it. Billy was four; ’twas his 16th time under the whip.

Teresa, just watch the Keeneland sale live auction! The whole setup is an interesting look of what the south was 150 years ago! Have watched the sale for just a few minutes the other day. Wanda, the articles of the reports on employees being cheated out of pay would have to be encyclopedia! We have been there & as racing declined here in Oregon at Portland Meadows before it was closed & redeveloped, the less pay or no pay situations became more rampant.
I would like to see all of the racing industry publications including the Paulick Report, BloodHorse, Daily Racing Form, Horse Racing Nation, and Thoroughbred Daily News do articles on the names of the trainers who have cheated their employees out of wages and how much and for how many years and the lawsuits that were filled against the trainers by the employees who were cheated by the boss. This would include Kenneth McPeek and a bunch of scoundrels like him.
Evil horse gambling ONLY goes on because of SLAVE labor. Take illegal stall workers away …..Poof, scumbag horse racing GONE 😏 …..F**k horseracing.
Identically same connections as poor Jokemeister, who “had issues, euthanized” at mountaineer. Seems like they are bad at their jobs, but great at horse killing.
While I am NOT a supporter of this trump administration…if the slave labor stall workers in this evil industry were targeted same as all other low pay illegal workers…horse Killing scumbag crap would be “Poof” Gone. ONLY explanation is scumshit wealthy owners have gotten a “deal”or some nefarious agreement to not take away their slave labor…so this evil can go on. Wealthy owners probably agreed to give trump massive contributions to republicans to look the other way.
Replay..race 7 horse #1…he was behind the entire time losing ground all the way. Sad sad sad..only 5 horses in this particular race. I just don’t get it like most here on HRW.
RIP
Yes, Henry, the subsidies to the horse racing industry are called Corporate Welfare. This welfare money from Video Lottery Terminal payments (as well as many other sources and/or forms of subsidies) go to the richest organizations of people in this inhumane industry. The subsidies help keep the racetracks afloat. The Corporate Welfare more or less trickles down to the lowly backside track workers in the form of they still have this lifestyle of having a job taking care of horses and a sub-standard place to sleep.
It’s really not much different than the rest of society where a lot of welfare money goes to administration/ administrative office workers and then the rest of the money trickles down to the poor eventually, which is generally in the neighborhood of 30 cents on the dollar.
The politicians and the social workers can pat themselves on the back for the wonderful things they did for the lowly second-class citizens. It’s a living for the administrative professionals and dehumanizing for the less fortunate.
Henry, I was shocked when I saw how backstretch workers lived at Saratoga. It reminded me of slave quarters. If you take the formal tour of the backstretch, one of their talking points is how quaint and historical the backstretch is—Although there have been some repairs over the years, they try to leave that pre-Civil War “ambiance” (when, by the way, actual enslaved people did live back there). Such prestigious careers!
The Horse racing industry receives millions of dollars in subsidies, or can we just go ahead and call it welfare. We are bombarded with the justification that jobs are created. There was an article on the Paulick Report recently. The article was a feel good piece about the race track chaplain at Colonial Downs, which is a boutique meet with large purses. The article detailed how the chaplain was giving away care packages to employees. Pink packages for women and blue for men. In the packages are things like toothpaste and soap. These are basic needs items. Apparently the jobs your tax dollars are paying for pay so little the recipients need care packages with basic needs items. LET THAT SINK IN.
