I could have picked any of these victims (including two 1-year-olds), but here’s one: “Severe, comminuted fracture of the sixth lumbar vertebra with associated disc obliteration and hemorrhage into the spinal canal.”

Through a FOIA request to the Oklahoma Racing Commission, I have confirmed the following kills at that states tracks thus far this year. Please share far and wide.

Explosive Pride, Feb 14, Remington T
“Right shoulder injury with severe, deep muscle lacerations and scapular fracture.” Explosive was four years old.

Hurricane Harvey, Feb 25, Remington T
“[Multiple] fractures with acute, severe hemorrhages.” Hurricane had not yet turned two – yes, he was technically still a one-year-old.

Midnite Kiss, Mar 19, Remington T
“Fracture of L7 vertebra with ventral displacement of fracture fragment leading to acute compression of the spinal cord.” Midnite, like Hurricane above, had not yet turned two – so again, still a one-year-old.

A Tres of Eagle, Apr 6, Remington R
“Acute, comminuted spinal fracture with hemorrhages.” A Tres was six years old.

This Chic Kickin Tale, Apr 10, Remington T
“[Multiple] open [through the skin] tibial fractures – total of 12 bone fragments within stifle joint; [multiple] torn ligaments.” This Chic had just turned two the previous month.

Louies Hightime Dash, May 4, Remington R
“[Multiple] open [through the skin] fractures, [one] with approximately a dozen fragments that embed in the adjacent skeletal muscle and soft tissues; [multiple] ruptured tendons/ligaments.” Then this: “The stomach ulcers are chronic…evidence of melena suggests they are actively bleeding.” Louies was five years old.

Larryknocksoutsandra, May 29, Remington T
“The fetlock joint is completely disarticulated with the pastern and foot displaced dorsally. The distal third of the cannon bone and all surrounding soft-tissue structures are exposed and covered by dirt. Phalanx 1-3 remains attached to the limb via the skin and extensor and flexor tendons. The medial proximal sesamoid bone has an open, complete, comminuted fracture. The suspensory ligament is completely ruptured…and covered by dirt.” Larry was two years old. Now go back and re-read that destruction.

Eg Cliff Money, Jun 13, Fair Meadows R
“Fell: [multiple] complete vertebral fractures with complete avulsion, large quantities of hemorrhage.” Then this: “Gastric ulcers presumably reflect high athletic performance, stress, and/or NSAID administration.” Eg was but three years old.

Dancininthecountry, Jun 19, Fair Meadows R
“[Multiple] complete, comminuted fractures with displacement; [multiple] complete ligament ruptures; acute tendon avulsion.” The report added: “The adrenal glands had a corticomedullary hemorrhage, a nonspecific finding associated with shock.” All that destruction – of course shock. That poor girl. She was five years old.

Fire Me Twice, Jul 12, Fair Meadows R
“Severe, comminuted fracture of the sixth lumbar vertebra with associated disc obliteration and hemorrhage into the spinal canal.” And: “Additional hemorrhages in other body regions are most consistent with collapse-related trauma.” And: “Gastric ulcerations were also identified, a frequent finding in racehorses, typically associated with stress and high-concentrate diets.” Fire Me Twice was three years old.

  1. We are a SICK country. No wriggling out of this. Lazy scum who don’t want to have to study and work to go get a REAL job.

  2. “A butcher” or “The butcher” was the nickname for D. Wayne Lukas who was hailed as a “hero” after he died.
It really is morally depraved that if you cause harm and death to so many horses and dope them up to run in races that win big purses that eventually you might get enough wins in high end races to be in the racing Hall of Fame. That would represent how many injured and bloodied up horses?! And how many dead horses?!

  3. The carnage described by these autopsies is horrendous on such young horses. Imagine being the people performing these reports! 1st we would be so upset & crying to see so many good horses lives cut short, then we would become ferociously angry that any business would be allowed such wastage of all the resources represented by these unfortunate horses. Shut down this “Crooked, Crummy, Gamboling Game”. We could not handle performing these reports.
