The following horses were scratched by the regulatory vet (i.e., their exploiters had every intention of racing them) at Ellis over just 5 days (Jul 3-12) for being “unsound”:
Big Hat Willie
Mint Driven
Mobster Gun
Brushfire
Stolen Lute
Rich City Girl
La Foret
And these horses were scratched by private vets for either “illness” or “injury”:
Uncle Shaw
When Smokey Sings
Cat On Time
My Grass Is Blue
Adalene
Chaching Chaching
Livin La Vida Coco
Golden Glider
Catchyalater
Fond Farewell
Show Master
Marmalade Skye
Norah G
Dirty Rich
Get Her Number
Heaven’s Hope
Practically Famous
Nursekringledances
And the “claims” – that would be sales – of the following were voided when the horses in question finished their races physically compromised in one way or another:
Tis Charming
Zohere
Beach Bunny
Vagabond Shoes
Rational Theory
Bright Leaf
Off Ramp
Ludwig
Carbone
Charbonnay
Those last three voids came in the same Jul 12 race. Ugly stuff.
And finally, these from the stewards:
“Hard to Get was injured in the paddock and scratched.”
“The claim of Broughty Ferry was voided when the horse suffered a post-race heatstroke.”
“Santos Dumont returned lame and required the horse ambulance.” (The chart said nothing of this.)
This, too, is horseracing.

Bonnie we left in the fall of 2004. If you`re only 4’10” tall & of light weight just try to find gainful work! Also if you have little or no ” Working Memory” as Temple Grandin calls it, you will always be discriminated against as being different. The owners of race horses don`t care how tall you are as long as you have the guts to ride their horses at something approaching 40mph.
From what I have noticed looking for replays, they pull the ones that an incident occurred so the we love our horses like family isn’t tarnished. The replay becomes “this race unavailable”. Also, the race at Monmouth today,Starting Over the gray horse was pulled up with a hind leg injury. He was behind the entire time during the race. The vet was interviewed by the sportscaster saying he was vanned off for evaluation and they’d keep everyone informed. Yeah right. Same race, the #11 horse was kicking very hard when being loaded up. He came in last and ran behind everyone the entire race. Honestly, I don’t think there was much hope for the vanned horse.
It’s interesting that the all the race replays at Del Mar are available today except race 5, and the chart says a 3 year old filly named Origami “finished 9th by 100 lengths”
Then WHY fredjoan did you keep staying in this pure evil gambling non REAL job? Animals should NEVER be used for gambling
Fred & Joan, recently I saw a short video of a woman talking about Charlotte DuJardin surrounding herself with people who will only say “yes” to her no matter how severe the degree of abuse she inflicted on the horses. I can only pray that more and more people become aware of the abuse of horses that so many trainers inflict and get away with for so many years.
Many times as rides we had to be the 1`s who said the horse was unfit to race or gallop in am! The vets & trainers could careless as long as the owners were happy & paying their day $$. The way things are going in all facets of the equine industries the equine industries are going to lose their social license to operate.
This CORNY bullshit of killing horses needs to stop. Hey Donald…why don’t you round up and deport all the illegals who work cleaning stalls and horses for this EVIL scumbag industry? Do that, and this evil industry is done. How much do you want to bet the rich owners in this EVIL scum have begged Donald not to deport their illegal stall cleaners. Someone must do an investigation of BRIBES the Uber rich owners are paying off this current administration. SHUT it DOWN to save the horses
RIP Horses are living beings and should be treated with love and respect, not as property or mere possessions!
When horses are entered in a race and dropping way down in class it is because of soundness issues.
Young horses don’t just all of a sudden decide to be slow within a matter of weeks or months.
There was a really nice well bred horse yesterday running at Del Mar for a top trainer who dropped him down to 25k claimers.
The public made him the big favorite and he ran last barely able to finish the race.
Without even looking at him you know there is a soundness issue, yet these scenarios pass vet checks every day.
Is this what they mean when they say that the Kentucky Thoroughbred Development Fund’s aim is to “upgrade” the overall quality of racing in the Commonwealth of Kentucky???
Allowing trainers to run their horses to the point of physical injuries that requires the ‘regulatory’ veterinarians to scratch and void various abused horses doesn’t seem like “quality” racing because the lowest common denominator is that forcing underdeveloped colts and fillies to gallop and at top speed under the weight of a rider carrying a whip and possibly the illegal electric shock device is ABUSE OF HORSES.
How does one reconcile the fundamental abuse of horses with the concept of “overall quality” of racing???
Bringing more Kentucky-sired and Kentucky-foaled Thoroughbreds into a fundamentally abusive and cruel gambling game is not what I consider “quality”. However, if one doesn’t give a flying crapola about what happens to the living, breathing animals but only about filling race cards in Kentucky for gambling opportunities, that might fit their criteria for “quality”.
