Gun Collector’s run in the 7th at Parx yesterday, in the cold, terse telling of the chartwriter: “forced the pace inside, suffered catastrophic injury on the turn and was subsequently euthanized.” And that’s that. Gun was five years old.
Then there’s this for 2-year-old Dinner Royale, according to the NYS Gaming Commission: “Horse trained by Rudy Rodriguez sustained left hind and front leg injuries when it fell to the floor of a horse trailer then got stuck underneath divider while shipping for training. Injuries resulted in a [sic] early scratch on Jun 12 [at Belmont].”
Again, the “it” in question is but two – how terrified this poor boy must have been.
It is surprising that Parx allowed the replay with Gun Collector’s race in full. He was running up front most of the way around the oval. He started losing ground,then the bobbling started. Marie sums it up perfectly. It looks like he lost everything in the back end. Sadly and undoubtedly a massive injury.
What a cruel joke of a so-called horseman Rudy Rodriguez is! It sounds to me like he is being intensely enabled by the gaming commissioners.

Notice that cornball ICE isn’t raiding the horse racing industry…because, the wealthy owners are probably saying don’t take away our illegal CHEAP labor. Cleaning stalls. You’re super wealthy….the fat man will take your plea to not take away your Hispanic slave labor …just like the farmers (who are always getting bailouts)are being exempted all of a sudden by this administration….they can miraculously all a sudden keep their illegal crop workers. Gun Collector’s breakdown was gruesome. It looked like his back legs fell out from under him. I’ll be curious as to what his true injury was.
That whiny voiced track announcer, Jessica Paquette, said he was “being pulled up.” She couldn’t even get that right- which is par for the course for her. She did let everyone know, though, that the jockey was back on his feet! Besides being a joke of an announcer, her voice is like nails on a chalkboard.
Rudy Rodriguez still going strong after all these years. He has gotten away with so much but that is par for the course in this business of cruelty!
I remember seeing he left landscaping work because he wanted some of “that money” in racing!
He started out in the claiming game with owner Michael Dubb. They had amazing stats – made lots of “that money”!
Dubb eventually distanced himself from Rudy. Currently Dubb is a member of the NYRA Board of Directors and Rudy makes the news once again.This time not for drugs but for Spooky Lady with a 7 day old fractured pelvis being “found dead in stall” and 2year old Dinner Royale falling in a trailer and sustaining “injuries to left hind and front legs” when he got stuck under the divider.
The terror of that 2yr. old cannot be imagined and then there is the 7 days of suffering of Spooky Lady before she died in the stall….disgraceful.
Also, What was the immediate cause of Spooky Lady’s death? It needs to be determined.
