Wednesday, the opening day of the “Belmont Stakes Racing Festival” at Saratoga, “Whatlovelookslike…suffered an injury and was favoring the RH leg nearing the 9/16 and was immediately put to a protective hold and expertly pulled up near the half-mile pole, then got vetted on track and was transported from the course in the equine ambulance.”
That’s a lot of words from the chartwriter – including some especially execrable ones (“immediately put to a protective hold”; “expertly pulled up”) – just to say the horse was probably going to end up dead. And indeed she is – euthanized yesterday for what one rag called “severe fractures.” (It was covered by the racing press because it was opening day at Saratoga, and it was a $200K stakes race. Otherwise, they couldn’t care less.)
Whatlovelookslike was six, and this was her 22nd time under the whip. The complicit: Stonewall Farm, Barry Schwartz, Todd Pletcher, Irad Ortiz, and anyone who supports horseracing, anywhere, in any way (betting, attending, watching, working in).
Leave it to an organization of sadistic die-hard horse-killing white collar and blue collar thugs to use the terms “protective hold” and “expertly pulled up” for a Thoroughbred mare that has just suffered MULTIPLE FRACTURES in her Right Hind Leg due to what these sadists did to her to cause this tragedy.
These people, including Todd Pletcher the Sadist, are as guilty as sin itself for causing the mare named WHATLOVELOOKSLIKE to suffer MULTIPLE FRACTURES to her right hind leg, The Times-Union reports that she was transported to the Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital (in Saratoga Springs, New York) for surgery but it was determined that surgery was not a viable option and therefore she was euthanized at the “hospital”.
She is absolutely a racing kill, but I wouldn’t be one bit surprised if she is not counted in future reports by those people who like to sweep any racing kill under the rug by confusing the issue by saying that she wasn’t killed on the track. She was injured on the track but killed off the track. It is definitely nitpicking but what else have these sadistic people got to defend the indefensible?!
All of these die-hard horse abusing heathens should be charged with Animal Cruelty and arrested.

NY, just can’t stop KILLING. “ one of elite venues” my ass. If Mapleleaf Mel,wasn’t vomit worthy enough….then,you’re a sick Mf’r. Sick Sick Sick, there’s SO many Mapleleaf Mel’s dead for nothing…because of NY. Many people have stated the sounds of bones snapping at NY tracks …the one that happened shortly after her ….I believe name something like NY Thunder, people have publicly stated will scar them for life….the cannon sound of his leg snapping off.
She is dead and they caused it by racing her – for me, it looks like the whole point of racing horses. At some stage the horse will collapse, break a leg, or suffer some sort of injury that can’t be repaired because that’s what is meant to happen, that’s their “job”.
“protective hold” and “expertly pulled up” are, I believe, attempts to make it sound like the people involved with endangering this poor horse actually cared about her. They are experts. They are protective. She’s dead anyway, and they are responsible.
It’s sickening that they give these enslaved, abused and murdered horses names like WHATLOVELOOKSLIKE. I name the people who do this WHATHATELOOKSLIKE!
