As I wrote earlier this month, we have been completely shut out in the states of Arkansas and Florida – the racing commissions there claiming that while they are still the ostensible regulatory bodies at the state level, they no longer receive and maintain records on racehorse deaths. Still, I have other sources and have been able to confirm the following recent racing kills at Gulfstream and Tampa Bay:
Our Magic Princess, three, killed (“fell”) in the 2nd race at Tampa Mar 8.
Althena, three, killed in the 10th race at Tampa Mar 9.
Term, four, killed (“fell”) in the 10th race at Gulfstream Mar 23.
Cajun Gem, five, killed in the 10th race at Tampa Mar 30.
Brookmesa, three, killed (“pulled up in distress”) in the 6th race at Tampa Apr 5.
U Bet Jo’s Praying, three, killed (“apparent cardiac event”) in the 9th race at Tampa Apr 5.
A Western Yarn, five, killed (“took a bad step”) in the 9th race at Tampa Apr 16.
JUAN MO TIME, a Florida-bred colt born on February 12, 2021 was listed as a DNF because he fell during Race 2, a Maiden Claiming race, on May 16, 2025 and lost the jockey, Luca Panici on the track.
This colt’s owner and breeder is/was Larry A. Bell and his trainer is/was Ruben Sierra. His last Timed Workout was at Gulfstream Park on May 10, 2025.
It looks especially horrific in the video replay for the horse trying to stay up on all fours but can’t. He went down and stayed down while the jockey went rolling away from the horse on the track.
We`re also glad you have other sources you can rely on. With HISA as an excuse you will most likely see more jurisdictions trying to hide the true casualties.
