Standing for the Horses in South Florida

This past Saturday, Pegasus Day, Horseracing Wrongs partnered with SoFlo Animal Rights for a protest at Gulfstream Park. It was a great success, with coverage by ABC Miami.

Thank you to SoFlo and to all you kind souls who came out and stood for the horses…

  1. We think Oregon is right up there with the worst of the worst Wanda. In our state even the minimal rules of HISA are not adhered to. Only 1/2 bull ring fair type meets left. Oregon does not participate in HISA at all that were aware of.

  2. Suspending the anti-doping rules in St. Thomas and running unregistered Thoroughbreds as well as the racetrack not cleared by “experts” and running two horses that were banned from Gulfstream for violating the doping rules in Florida sounds like the worst of the worst.

  3. Patrick, and all who are monitoring the crimes done against race horses:

Today’s Edition of Thoroughbred Daily News: – Headline – After Breakdowns Last Year, Lack of Oversight Put Horses in Jeopardy in U.S. Virgin Islands.

The article goes on to describe horses from Florida were shipped to the U.S. Virgin Islands from Gulfstream. The victims broke were put down. The names of the trainers and the horses killed by their training methods are mentioned in this article so it is befitting that their names be added to the death count (these horses deserve to be remembered) and their reprehensible connections exposed to public odium for what they did to these gallant thoroughbreds.

  4. Thank you, Joe. I did write to the station and register my complaint about the use of that word. I see your point, though. But at least I let them know that they should do an investigative story about what really goes on in the realm of horseracing (or horse-erasing since so many horses live an unnatural life and death).

  5. Gulfstream is in the process of becoming a thing of the past in the not too distant future.
California is circling the drain as well. No racing days/dates were applied for by the people in charge of the county fair horse racing in Pleasanton.
It looks like the Stronachs are looking to do “business” and not “charity” (no surprise there) so the “little guys” can whine all they want. Their whining won’t stop the inevitable trainwreck from crashing. The trajectory for horse racing is much like the trajectory for global warming. There doesn’t appear to be any indication that either trajectory for horse racing or global warming will be reversed.

Thank you to all who showed up to protest the mistreatment of horses. The posters are very impactful.

  6. Ronda C., whenever reporting the news, stations must use the word “alleged” to avoid potential lawsuits from, in this case, at least, the racing industry. Although most readers of this site are well aware that the cruelty to the horse population goes on at race tracks unabated, every day, without concrete proof of this (i.e. a trial, lawsuit, a decision by a judge and jury), the station could be sued. And you know the racing industry will stop at nothing if something is gonna affect their bottom line $$$$.

TV and news stations will not risk that, as lawsuits can become very expensive, even if you win. Don’t expect the word “alleged” to disappear from news broadcasts anytime soon, whether it be a murder case, robbery, corporate heist, horse racing or anything else that has not had an official legal decision or verdict handed down by a judge or jury.

Yes, it’s frustrating and aggravating. But the news stations have a lot at risk, as well, if they don’t cover their a**es.

  7. I noticed the comments to the station are pro- racing. We need to jump on there and let them know how racing really is!!

  8. Note that the newscaster used the word ALLEGED when describing the cruelty, abuse and murder of innocent horses. If I can, I will find out who the newscaster is and write to her about her misleading description of horseracing. If not, I will write directly to the station and complain.
