This from the Gaming Commission for 4-year-old Black Rain in the 1st at Aqueduct yesterday: “Horse experienced [how disgusting is that?] multiple fractures to LH leg, was vanned to barn for further evaluation and [subsequently] euthanized.” And there you have it, the first confirmed kill of 2025. The complicit: Paul Pompa Jr., AIA Racing, Todd Pletcher, Kendrick Carmouche, and all who support U.S. horseracing anywhere, in any way. (By the way, two other horses were “scratched” prior to this race for injury/illness, leaving but three at the start – and two at the finish.)

RIP.
Whenever someone uses phrases like “obviously sad to see” when talking about racehorse injuries and death, it’s a sure sign of a die-hard apologist who in actuality doesn’t give a shit about the health and welfare of the horses but feels compelled to throw out a trite bit of rhetoric to make themselves seem empathetic in the hopes that their inevitable follow up of immature, undeveloped racehorses who are forced to participate in a dangerous activity compared to adult human beings who choose to participate might somehow seem logical and morally justified.
Thanks a lot for your genius input “HorseRacingWrong” — whatever your real name is. You really know how to miss the point by more than a mile! Laughing Out Loud.
Oh please do tell us the “rules and regulations” for horse killing, Horseracing Wrong! As if we don’t know? And “injured”, that would be DEAD, not just “injured”.
First, you’re a coward for not using your name. Second, the ignorance lies with you: https://horseracingwrongs.org/killed-in-action/.
I can see the post and comments come from people that don’t even know all the rules and regulations that are in horse racing. Like any other sport, athletes can get injured. It’s obviously sad to see but please don’t talk if you don’t know what are you talking about.
Thank you, Marie. If all of the veterinarians in racing suddenly acted on behalf of the horses and cared about protecting them from the daily routine abuse and general all-around cruelty inherent to horseracing, they could refuse to do what they do that makes racing “legal”. There would be no “legal” racing at that point.
However, that wouldn’t stop all injustices to horses. I know that will never happen but single races can be postponed when jockeys band together and refuse to ride for their own specific reasons.
Unfortunately, this heinous mistreatment of horses doesn’t get any licensed trainer suspended or banned from racing. I doubt that Todd Pletcher misses a beat in his daily routine mistreatment of horses for racing and Pari-mutuel gambling when something as horrific as this happens. The same with any of these seriously depraved and die-hard horse abusers and killers. It’s their “bread and butter”.
Dave Grening, the Daily Racing Form’s NY “rep”, posted that they made this poor horse “walk” onto the horse van even though he couldn’t even put his hind leg down and bear weight on it! These scumbags tortured this poor horse for nothing. They should be ashamed of themselves, especially the state vet, who didn’t have the balls to stand up and advocate for this poor horse knowing full well he was going to be euthanized anyhow. Shame on ALL Of YOU. You are an embarrassment to your veterinary profession.
