The 4th at Laurel yesterday, in the words of the chartwriter: “Calle de Oro suffered a catastrophic injury near the three-furlong pole, pulled up shortly soon after then
was euthanized on the track.” It also came with this addendum: “There was a stewards’ inquiry into the run around the final turn. No action was deemed necessary.”
Geez, I can think of a couple “necessary actions” – like canceling the rest of the day because one of the “athletes” died in full public view. Vile. That view, by the way, did not and will not extend to the Maryland Racing YouTube channel: Track owner Stronach Group did a quick edit and wholly whitewashed the kill from the replay. Cowards. Calle was two years old. The complicit: 3C Stables, Jose Corrales, George Resta, Erick Fuentes, and all those who support the U.S. horseracing industry in any way.

How many horses are having nervous breakdowns at the starting gate and nobody cares? Roughly 40 or so years back, a renowned trainer had a horse that had a nervous breakdown at the gate. The media at that time went after the trainer in their columns, but today that trainer enjoys plaudits and praise, and he is still the same despicable creature that ruined a horse for the thrill of a buck, and continues his career in racing without any challenge as to his training methods.
The horse’s name was FLAWLESS RULER and, in one place I found, he is listed as an ‘Also Ran’ in the 12th race on Saturday, November 16th at Woodbine. His name appears last on the list of also rans.
The racetrack was deemed safe to run Sunday’s card. There’s just too much money to be lost; who cares about the horses?
Hopefully, more and more people with a conscience can see through the public relations lies and stop supporting this atrocity.
The abuse and killing is, as you have always said, inherent to horseracing.
Another young doomed horse was killed at Woodbine and, evidently since this routine atrocity occurred in a $15,000 claiming race, it was deemed that the track surface was/is “safe” so there were no cancellations of any races this time. The abuse and subsequent catastrophic injuries to horses continues.
