The CHRB has reported two more dead racehorses: Half Throttle at Pleasanton today, and Tazmanian Devil at Santa Anita yesterday. The former was three and had been raced five days ago at that same track (being that the death is listed as “musculoskeletal,” there is probably a connection). The latter was two and was being prepped for his debut.
In NY, Determined Effort was initially listed as a “breakdown” while training at Saratoga Sep 20. Three weeks later, says the Gaming Commission, he was euthanized due to those injuries. Determined was a colt – which likely explains why he was made to suffer (much) longer than necessary. My disdain for this industry knows no bounds.
The moral depravity of the people in this despicable industry knows no bounds.
A person who engages in the deliberate forcing of very young colts or fillies to run while carrying the weight of a rider wielding a whip and knowing the probability of the young horses being injured to any degree is a sign of being sadistic.
Greedy people who engage in this sadistic abuse of horses causing injuries to these horses are guilty of Animal Cruelty. This abuse of horses is moral depravity. These people belong in jail for Felony Animal Cruelty.
Forcing a horse to suffer for several hours or several days or weeks is most depraved and should be punished.
These filthy creeps should not be allowed to have horses let alone exploit them to death and make horses suffer because of money to be made or anything else.
This is a longer length of time between races than here at Oregon`s 1/2 mile bush league tracks. We have seen horses that are raced on back to back days within the same weekends card. Many times the interval between races is at most 2 or 3 days for these poor overused & abused horses! Not good horsemanship at all & totally unprofessional. As the shortage of available horses to race becomes ever more apparent we will see more of this abuse sadly.
