Through a FOIA request to the California Horse Racing Board, I have obtained the following details on some of that state’s kills thus far this year.
Exceed Speed Limit, Feb 4, San Luis Rey T
“Sudden death post work, cause not definitively determined – acute cardiorespiratory collapse most likely contributor.” Also: “stomach ulcers.” Exceed was six years old.
Pour Dompter, Feb 28, Los Alamitos T
“Trotting on track, collapsed, died a few minutes later. This horse had evidence of cardiac disease with very widespread lesions that ranged from cardiomyocyte degeneration and necrosis to mononuclear inflammation and intermingled with early fibrosis and areas of collapse.” Also: “multifocal stomach ulcers.” Pour was three years old. Cardiac disease.
Sir Atticus, Mar 5, Santa Anita T
“RF injury during workout: [multiple: at least four] open, displaced fractures; several torn ligaments and tendons; complete rupture of fetlock capsule; extensive hemorrhage.” Also: “previous history: Apr 4, 2022, collision on track with another horse, lame RF, ambulance off; Apr 28, 2022, LH stress fracture.” Also: “stomach ulcers.” Sir Atticus was four years old.
Americas Favorite, Mar 13, Los Alamitos T
“Fell past wire: complete, displaced, comminuted scapular fractures; severe, extensive hemorrhage.” Also: “gastric ulceration.” Americas was two and being prepped for debut.
Derby War, Mar 18, Santa Anita S
“[Multiple] complete, displaced, comminuted pelvic fractures. One of the fractured segments tore the internal iliac artery, causing exsanguination, which was the cause of death in this horse.” In other words, Derby, seven, bled out.

Wanda, Armsrunner will always break my heart too. I saw it happen. La Sardane fell too and made it. I’ve said before the two jockeys just walked off “ohh well” when the horses limping over to them for solace. His foot was so badly damaged from that barbaric down hill race can not be unseen.
Also, both Bridget Moloney and Arms Runner were put through the Ocala Breeders’ Sale when they were very young. These human vultures made money off of these young and underdeveloped Thoroughbreds.
Peter Miller, the horse killer, was the blood sucking trainer who exploited ARMS RUNNER to literal death.
Make that 5 of us who will never forget what happened to Bridget Maloney.
September 25 2019 in memory of Bridget Maloney and all the others who have been used, abused and betrayed. There are 3 of us here who never forget you. Taken to a landfill dump with your racing socks still on your broken limbs to be forgotten. Not quite.

I think that if the law regarding Animal Welfare in California was enforced, horseracing would be the equivalent of banned in California. There basically would not be any horse trainers who could continue to operate under the law if the law was enforced.
The California Horse Racing (Killing) Board members would be doing jail time if there was true justice. They have been known to violate many other rules, regulations and laws regarding Business Conduct as well as Animal Welfare. Race-fixing and all of the rest of it should be taken seriously because it is criminal activity.
