A “Catastrophic” Kill at Parx

The 5th at Parx yesterday, in the cold, terse words of the chartwriter: “Nobiz Like Jetbiz suffered catastrophic injury to his right front in the stretch and was subsequently euthanized.” Left unwritten was that Nobiz also fell – a fact noted by the track announcer (although she used the word “spill”) but whitewashed from the race replay.

While it is never a surprise when a racehorse dies, some kills are less surprising. Nobiz was eight years old, and this was his 45th race. Worse yet, he hadn’t been “competitive” for years. Dating to 2021, Nobiz finished a combined 186 lengths back over his final 13 races, never once coming in higher than 4th. All of those, and his death race, came under the yoke of Paul Conrad. (Conrad also had Nobiz “For Sale” – cheap – the day he died.)

This is horseracing.

  1. Paul Conrad and the other people who participate in this egregious cruelty to horses are the dregs of society. That includes everyone at PARX for participating in and keeping this abusive horse-killing meat grinder racetrack going and putting their own vileness as a higher priority than the safety and well-being of the horses.

    Q. How many people who play the slot machines or whatever they play at those casinos that support this wretched industry through casino subsidies know what they are supporting???
