The chartwriter’s recounting of the 5th at Mountaineer last night: “Wicked Review took a bad step falling near the 7/16 pole…euthanized on track.” Wicked was four years old.
Here is how it looked. Note the announcer’s “reaction”:

Actually, none of those poor abused horses running at those trash tracks are really fit to race. But that doesn’t stop the trash people who hang out at these venues. It is a blot on the states that harbor them.
But more importantly, it is a cruel situation for the defenseless horses.
Agree. The only thing I see on the major news stations is nostalgic, sentimental propaganda for historic places like Saratoga.
The first race was an Allowance race and race #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7 & #8 were $4,000 Claiming races at Mountaineer on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. So how long would it take for this hell-hole for horses to go out of business if the subsidies dried up/ were terminated? I’m sure these people love (sarcasm) their horses so much that they wouldn’t want to sell them for less than $4,000 but could they feed them long enough to hold out for that price? Probably not.
FYI only 4 horses ran in race 3. It’s pathetic. The gray horse was getting smacked to the very last minute. Is there a status on the sad pulled up horse that was the leader?
All tracks are trashy but the 1/2 mile bull ring tracks here in Oregon are the worst of the worst! Yesterday the horses were racing in Prineville in temp.s of 98F! Our horses were in the shade of the north side of their barn or under the eves of our house. This barbaric industry cannot end soon enough!
I was thinking they should have probably scratched most of those horses anyway. But the track vets get paid to help fill race cards. “The shit-show must go on” for these morally depraved people.
This egregious cruelty should be reported on the NBC, ABC and CBS news the way they reported on the horses that died leading up to the 2023 Kentucky Derby. Horses are horses and this crap is crap at any level. It all matters.
Mind you, this was after Medway Queen broke down in the 3rd race, and the jockey continued to coast her to the finish line even though she was clearly injured. She was “merely” a “bad step, equine ambulance” victim.
Mountaineer continues to prove they are one of the trashiest tracks!
This poor horse returned after an 8 month lay off, so clearly already had issues. But mountaineer would let him them run even if they only had 3 legs!
