The CHRB says that Sam Spade died at Golden Gate yesterday. No details, of course, but I can tell you he was but two years old – a baby – and being prepped for his debut.

The horses are never truly safe as long as they’re owned by people who exploit them to death. Most, if not all, of these horses stabled at Golden Gate Killing Fields will be injured either fatally or crippled for life somewhere else, if not at Golden Gate Killing Fields. Since slaughter is not categorized as “racing” but rather as “agriculture” we won’t be hearing about those unfortunate horses disappearing from the racing world.
Withholding evidence of their egregious cruelty to and killing of horses is NOT transparency as most people know; but someone should tell the horse-killing overlords at the California Horse Racing Board.
We can always count on these people to deny, deflect and deceive. By the way, I personally find those articles in the racing industry press about Golden Gate coming to an end completely revolting due to their inability to be honest about what they do to horses. Their portrayal of the racing industry with rose-colored glasses is absolutely vomit-worthy.
I don’t think he was the only one who passed away at Golden Gate yesterday, unfortunately. Watching JD’s Rude Boy’s race, I can’t imagine he survived his “equine ambulance” ride after he broke down.
We know of a very good horse transporter from Santa Rosa who for the last few years has been hauling dozens of horses with their owners who are all leaving Cal. & Golden Gate. Bill has told us the backside is a dump & in very poor condition! This despite the poor woe is us article that was placed I believe in the BH about how well kept a long tong time trainers barn is & how all the grooms are sad at having to relocate to Pleasanton`s track. This industry is so full of lies & deceitful stories its disgusting.
